embarassing question about scales?
hi, im new here and was wondering if anybody could help with a silly question about my scale. you see, i stand on the scale, and it gives me a reading of 180 lbs. HOWEVER, if i lean myself a little forward, it will add on about 3 pounds. I was wondering.. what is the right way to step on a scale? I dont want to cheat myself and say im 180 when im really 183. hayyy. i know its one of those nonsense questions... but then again, im a nonsense kind of girl. haha. thanks to anyone who has time to spare! much appreciated!
First of all, make sure your scale is on a firm, flat surface like tile, not carpet. If you need to, you can go to a home improvement store and buy a big tile for about $1 to put your scale on.
Also, is this a digital scale or a dial/spring scale? The spring scales are notorious for losing their accuracy as they get older, and in my experience, are a lot more nitpicky about positioning. I would say try to make sure you are always standing in the center and in the same position. How you would ensure, that, I'm not certain. Line your tummy up with a certain spot on your foot?? Or maybe just go buy a new scale?
Hi
Funny problem. I had a scale like that once. A little wriggle and voila! there went the extra 5 pounds.
Maybe get a friend to draw an outline of where you should put your feet every single time?
I would take the leaning forward weight, because you can't see the scales otherwise!
If this is too frustrating, find a good scale, reliable scale that you can access and then weight yourself only to that scale. It has the added benefit of reducing the frequency of weigh-ins so that you get a good picture of the trend without fluctuations.

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
