Embarassing/Weird Question-Pain...

Quote  |  Reply

This is a really embarassing and probably stupid question..but

The past couple of days I've come back from running and had serious pain in my breasts. I really don't know what to do about it and I don't think it's healthy to take advil everyday. I've never really had this problem before and I'm not very voluptous at all [A cup Cry]. I asked my guy friend who is a runner and he said to...massage them??

Before I go feel myself up, are there any better less awkward suggestions??Undecided

I don't think I have ever heard of that... are you wearing a supportive bra? Sports bra?... you are only 17 right? Maybe they are growing on ya a little :) hehe

Not sure what you are wearing, but to run, you should DEFINITELY wear a sports bra...I always wore cheap ones and my breasts always hurt...then I went and spent a little money on some more expensive good bras and have not had a problem since!!

If you are already wearing a (good) sports bra, then you might want to have that checked out because running shouldn't cause that.

when you are running you use so many of your body's muscles that you didnt realize that you did-- but if you arent a new runner i dont see why this would suddenly start happening.

are you drinking more or less caffeine than usual?  caffeine can cause/exacerbate  breast pain.  adding more calcium to your diet can help too.  (this per my gyno)

definitely wear a sports bra-- no matter how small you are.  a little jiggle can cause a lot of pain.

lastly, if you notice nipple retraction, itching, shooting pains through your breasts, "orange peel" like skin, any odd discharge, go see a dr.

To keep everyone updated

I do wear a sports bra and i've been running about...a year i'd say...and my diet is pretty stable no changes really

Your breast may be growing though.  I went from an A cup to a large C cup in one summer when I was almost 19!!!  I couldn't even walk up and down stairs without horrible pain in the boobies.   I am sure I got a lot of strange looks walking around holding my boobs all day.   Thats when I had to wear 2 sports bras when running, even though my breast never got gigantic or anything.
Are you about to get your period? I have breast soreness the a few days before. If it hurts a lot I do exercise that is lower impact than running.
I was going to ask the same thing as alevin. Since it's only been the last couple of days, it's possible that it's a hormonal thing (ie. pms). I usually get soreness before I get my period and sometimes it can be pretty painful!
Also when it is really cold outside and I workout outside my breast will be tender.  Could be your period too.
My breasts can get sore around my ovulation time as well, (about 15 days after your period)

COuld just be hormones

britishvixen is right... another cause could be strenuous upper arm exercises which overwork the pectoral muscles.  Keep a diary of it, and if they are swollen in any way, particularly around the nipple area, see a doctor.

I am assuming, it could not be pregnancy?

LOL thats a typical guy answer! Ive never heard that suggestion before!

My boobs get very very tender and sore in the week before my period starts and when I first started taking the pill I could hardly move for the pain! Another cause would just be growing pains - you're young so they will prob naturally increase in size over the next so many years - mine did, I went from an A cup at 17 to being a big C 10 years later.

If you're worried go to the doc - he/she will soon put ure mind at rest. Laughing xx
