emotional eaters?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone.  Im new to this and I am just plain sick of being overweight.  I am getting my IUD taken out because I feel that has contributed tons to my weight gain but also, I am an emotional eater.  Any suggestions on how to over come this problem.  My problems began in December of 2007 when my family problems arose and more recently with my Dad's death.  So since then I went from a 12 to a tight 16 and I dont have the energy for anything.  However, I am starting this calorie counting and will start an exercise program.  If any of you have any suggestions on the emotional side, they will be appreciated.

Hiya,

I'm also an emotional eater. every time something bad happens or i'm fed up or tired, i eat ice cream. During my exams i was tired alot which meant a whole lot of ice cream and a whole lot of weight gain. i've just started my diet again after falling off the bandwagon and to stop myself from eating every time i feel down i'm going to do something else which relaxes me, like painting my nails or reading a good book. i think the key is to find something else you enjoy which also occupies your hands so that you dont think about food and you cant eat because your hands are busy xx

Hey, thanks for the reply.  Im glad Im not the only one with this problem.  Im new  to this calorie counting and I thought it was going to be hard, but I find it easier to not eat the sweets if I know its going to put me over my recommended calorie count.  I like a challenge and so the goal calorie intake and burner helps alot.  I was over my target calorie intake for the first few days but now I got the hang of it and it helps.  Also, I started exercising with the Wii Advance and boy does that help! I'm feeling sore muscles in places I didn't even know I had muscles.

I wish i could stay under my calories! i start the day with loads of willpower and then by the end of the day i'm so sick of having deprived myself of yummy foods that i go mad and eat loads of unhealthy things so that i mess up my calories :( i've been good today though and after a week or 2 of being really good and i start seeing results then i can get really motivated, it's just being good for the first couple of weeks to get me started that i'm finding hard. i've been trying to reply to as many posts as i can to help me stay motivated by knowing other people are going through the same things as me.

I have the wii fit but not the wii advance, what is it like? what sort of activities does it have?

Hi Girls,

I've been doing this for a couple of days and so far I've found it pretty painless. However, I've been at work all week and that makes a huge difference.  We are headed into the weekend and I'm hoping that I can continue to stay under my limit. I've been struggling with my weight all my life.  I'm 5'6" and  I managed to get down to a size 7 back in the mid-90's; not in a healthly way, I might add.  However, after I had my daughter in 1995 I got back up to a size 12 and another child later I found myself in a size 16.  When I started having to buy size 18 clothes, I decided that it had to stop.  So here I am, taking it day by day.  I try not to think about weight goals or anything like that and just sort of live in the moment I guess you could say; keep myself busy.

Teesha, the Wii advance is tons better than the Wii fit.  You do have to use the balance board.  I have only had it since Tuesday and have done two of the work outs on the 30 day challenge.  Trust me, it works you out! Luckily after the two workouts, it gives you a day of rest, which I really needed as I was really sore.

The way I am staying under my calorie count is I eat cereal, fruit and yogurt with coffee for breakfast, something within 400 calories for lunch and since Im working summer camp this week, dinner has been a snack size bag of baby carrots and yogurt.    I try to make my biggest calorie intake during lunch because I get soo hungry around 11 and 2.  Plus I keep yogurt, fruit and carrots around for a snack in case my will power fails me.

Hey astro, remember too that size is just a number.  I think that right now I would be content with a 12.  Sometimes we get carried away with all the skinny-minis with see on T.V., most of which are just sickly thin.  We need to focus on being healthy not just thin.  But I agree that keeping busy does help keep the mind off food.  Avoiding watching TV will help too because those commercials will get you craving stuff.

I think i may get the Wii advance as i've heard lots of good things about it! I too am trying to eat lots of fruit as snacks and am trying to drink lots of water to fill me up. i hadnt considered eating yoghurt though! that's a fab idea! I'm getting more and more motivated now, i've had a good couple of days and i feel like i can really do this so i hope i can stick with this feeling!
