Emotional people and happiness

Quote  |  Reply

I have this theory that emotional people have a harder time being happy because everything effects them so much, they analyze everything, care so much about what others think of them, get embarrased easily etc. I myself am a very emotional person and the smallest things cause me so much pain. I was talking to my friends about this and we are trying to figure out if people who are not so emotional are overall happier? If this is the case then I would like to try to become less emotional, lol!! What do you guys think?

I believe there is a difference between being emotional, and being negative. If you are emotional, you are emotional about everything, good and bad. Just in my opinion, what you were describing sounded more like being negative than emotional.

Also, emotions are beautiful things. I think people who release their emotions to a greater degree (crying rather than holding it in, etc.) are happier because they release their emotions rather than bottling them up. Back when I lived with my family, I was taught that crying and being angry was wrong.

I still do not like crying much. But I find that if I really feel like crying and just let myself go, then I feel so much better afterwards!

No I definitely mean emotional. I am the type of person that needs to talk to my friends and family when thing are bothering me and I am known to constantly be giving advice/talking to people to make them feel better. I really appreciate how much good I have in my life and realize I am so blessed. I do agree with you that there are tons of benefits to being emotional-some of life's experiences are so much richer, etc.  but I am just trying to figure out if people who are less emotional are happier or at least experience less pain since so much of life's pain comes from our emotional outlook on the situation, at least in my opinion.
