Empty Calories

I make sure that my calorie count is aroudn 1250 per day.  My problem is that half of that is "empy" calories.  I eat about 600 and drink the rest.  My question is - will this harm my body??  I would have to lose weight if my calorie count is OK, regardless of where the calories come from - right???

You need more nutrition to function efficiently than you get in 600 calories. Try low-cal or no-cal drinks-- Water is great!

Well, that doesn't sound like a very healthy diet!  Your body needs nutrients to function and stay healthy, and 600 calories of food just can't do that.  You can take thousands of calories daily and still not get the nutrients you need if you're not eating the right things.

What do you drink?  If you cut out high-sugar and high-fat drinks like sodas, cappuccinos, etc., you'll have much more leeway with the leftover calories to get an acceptable balance of carbs, proteins, and healthy fats.

Water may take some getting used to, but it's sooo much better for you than other choices.  You can make tea or use crystal light to switch things up.  Even fruit smoothies made with just fresh or frozen fruits and yogurt are tasty and nutritious.

Give those a try and try to fill your meals with more substance--fruits, veggies, lean meats, beans, nuts, etc.

what are you drinking? V8, ensure, etc are a lot different than sodas and milkshakes. if you like drinking more than eating, just make sure you're getting all the nutrients you need through beverages. if you get 600 calories from food and 600 calories from healthy, nutrient-rich beverages, i see no problem with that. it sounds difficult, but if you can manage it, more power to you!

Try out what april_mae said... I bet you'd feel a lot more energized throughout the day! Vitamin dificiency can cause a lot of long-term issues and can make your immune system plummet. Be careful, this is the only body you get! Skinny or fat, healthy is what's important!

Milkshakes still beat sodas by a mile for nutritional value.
