Endometriosis drugs and weight gain, Anyone?

Quote  |  Reply

Granted, its been a long while since I have taken the drugs, almost ten years, but I am having a lot of trouble losing this weight. I was taking Danazol for nearly a year in  which  I gained close to 60 pounds. Its been hell trying to lose it and I personally not longer motivated because I want to be thin like I was before I started the drugs.

I was never fat in my whole life until I got sick, and it sucks. However, its never stoped me from living my life.

I don't count calories and I try to eat well . I lift weights instead of cardio because my knee is shot.

I have learned that exercise is supposed to hurt and that losing weight is a painful process that sucks the very soul from you.

Has anyone else gotten fat because of drugs and what did you do about it.

( No offence, I really just want answers, I do not need your long drawn out story on how you lost the weight for those who have not experienced weight gain without drugs....)

Hi.... yeah Lupron.   For 6 months, and the stupid drug killed my thyriod and triggered other health problems.  gained 60 lbs.

Lost 37 lbs and counting.

Weight loss shouldn't be soul sucking, nor should it be horrifically painful.  The first thing you have to consider is it wasn't only drugs that made you gain weight.   For me it was drugs, surgery, laziness about what I ate, and reduced activity.  Strange hormonal drugs, horrible pain in my guts, and surgery pretty much convinced me that I didn't want to do... well much of anything.

It is possible.  But every person's journey is going to be different.  I can't really give you any advice... I don't know you stats, your diagnosis ((or more then one)), or anything about your work out routine.

I can say.... count calories.  Knowing exactly what I put into my body and what i expect out of it is very helpful.  It helped me identify patterns, triggers, and notice possible vitamin issued.   It's also good to see it in black and white.

Good luck.  I know how bad it sucks to get ill and have your life tossed around.  I'm glad you aren't letting it stop you from living life.

I gained 20 lbs while taking Lexapro (a SSRI). I was not thin to begin with, but the 20 lb weight gain pushed me into the obese category. No one is certain what causes the weight gain on SSRIs, but some doctors have theorized that they might induce insulin or leptin resistance. I am still on the drug, but calorie counting has allowed me to lose around 20 lbs to get back down to the weight I was before medication. Now I am ready to tackle the next 20 lbs.

You may find that you have to count calories to lose weight. I was eating a very healthy balanced diet beforehand, just too much of it. Losing weight does not have to be painful. Try using the tools on this site to calculate how many calories you burn every day, then try to eat slightly less than that. It has worked for quite a few people here, myself included. The best thing is you can still enjoy your favorite foods in moderation, and don't have to feel like you are starving yourself - a great way to keep your soul intact!

By the way, a good weight lifting regimen is a great way to get in shape, and the most recent exercise science suggests that cardio is overrated anyway :)

Feel free to message me if you want to chat, and good luck!
