Do any of you get Endorphin Highs, a wonderful feeling of well being, euphoria, ecstasy, etc? I run on an elliptical machine for 30 minutes, 5 times a week and have these wonderful feelings of well being almost continously. They started about 3 months after I started running and quit drinking. I'm told even small amounts of alcohol negate the effect. If any of you are experiencing this please reply.
Yep, that's why I run. I get them nearly every run about 35-40 minutes in. Some people may try to tell you they are not what you think they are...but if you get them, you know. Mine are very closely tied with particular songs, not the same song everytime, but a song that just strikes me at a certain time...I have run crying and grinning goofily -- people that watch me run the indoor track must think I'm nuts.
I'm going to get a t-shirt that says "endorphins...my drug of choice".

I would so buy that.
I never understood this until this year. I HATED any exercise, especially cardio. Then, I found the elliptical at the gym. A year ago, I could barely complete 10 minutes on level 5. Now, I can't get enough. Don't get me wrong-it is still hard for the first 15-20 minutes (level 14-16). But then- "AHHHHHHH"; I feel it. The energy and well being you speak of. Now, I am tackling harder routines and classes at the gym and I love it. Kickbox cardio, my favorite.
My hope is that everyone will realize that with hard work comes the rewards. Endorphines are one of many of the rewards we reap! ![]()
Endorphines are definately one reward but how about this?
Ohhhhhhhh.....![]()
tr: you CRACK me up always. i seriously look for your ridiculous posts sometimes.
I get endorphin highs up and down throughout my runs (i also find them tied to certain songs). But my real high comes after the workout. Fo a good hour I am non-stop talking an dlaughing, I even skip sometimes Im so giddy!

Ok, this was just the push I needed to start working my core ![]()
You guys are lucky! I have never experienced such highs. I have tried many things including 90 min runs, pushing myself, etc.., but I always don't really enjoy it. I'd much rather not do cardio. No comprendo. :(

Thank you .... I think?
uh oh, tr doesn't need any encouragement. do not feed the bears.
i actually get two different types of highs, depending on what exercise i do. short bursts of hi intensity exercises i get a big chemical dump that is very instantaneous & gets me quite buzzed, kinda like smoking a cig. that high can last from 30 to a couple of hours.
then i get a nice gradual peaceful high off of running or the step machine. followed by a floaty feeling after i stretch. that high lasts for maybe 30 mins
