Energy after drinking

Quote  |  Reply

I drank 3 light beer last night and I feel really tired, but I would love to go do some interval training. Thinking about getting an energy drink, but sceptical about the caffiene. Does anyone have any remedies or ideas for quick energy, or revitalizing yourself after a night of drinking?? Obviously besides not drinking at all??

Don't get an energy drink they're crap. You're body is probably dehydrated. You need water and electrolytes. One of my friends swears by gatorade to get rid of a hang over. I've tried it and it really helped. Also eat a good breakfast. And next time you drink, be sure to have a glass of water for every alcoholic drink you have. Its the best way not to get a hang over in the first place.

come on, the best way not to get a hangover is to not stop drinking.

lol yes I've heard that, Sully. But you have to admit the OP is going to have a hard time doing interval training while intoxicated.

One drink the next day can actually sometimes help a lot.

But yeah, gatorade! It's a miracle.  Too bad it's kind of high calorie.

Ahhh..the days when 3 lite beers gave me a hangover/tired feeling are long gone. I've long switched to liquor...as it's quicker! :)

Stay away from the energy drinks.

Food helps...

Honey is an excellent source of fructose, which assists the body in metabolizing the alcohol and fight its effects on the body. So spread it on some toast, or eat it straight from the spoon with some ginger. This stuff works miracles.

Drinking alcohol depletes your body’s potassium, which helps maintain your body’s pH and water levels. Because bananas are a natural anti-acid, they help counter the amount of stomach acid the body uses to try to digest alcohol. Bananas also contain magnesium to relax your blood vessels and vitamin B6 to help your nervous and immune system deal with morning headaches and confusion.

A smoothie made with honey and banana is an excellent option to settle your stomach, build up your blood sugar levels, replenish lost minerals and break down alcohol.

pedialyte.

it tastes gross, but it rehydrates you without all the suger.

I thought of this a few years ago but the recommended dosage is determined by your weight. Since the product is meant for kids, an adult would have to drink 5 bottles to get its effects! Plus, that stuff is not cheap.

Coconut water is like a natural version of Gatorade. It restores electrolytes. As for the OPs dilemma, I'd say just go to the gym and do it. If you're not feeling it, go home. At least you tried.

Three Light Beers is a night of drinking?  Ouch-I'm in trouble then.

Thank you for your replies!! Fitnessgirl, I will defnitely try that!! As soon as I start drinking I start feeling more and more dehydrated, weak and tired, even when I drink water in between. 3 is the most I can handle, and still suffer for it in the morning. I even drink calorie free powerade before bed, and have a small snack. Still wake up hungover.Cry

I would stop drinking, or just have 1 or 2. Seriously! During my clubbing days, I would get these serious dizzy spells everytime I drank, I would usually have to leave the club because if I didn't I'd get sick. I decided I would rather be there, dancing, than have to leave by 10:30 because I was sick. I switched to coke and the problem went away.

I still only have 1 or 2 drinks. That's kinda my limit as I'm a serious lightweight and I can't get beyond the buzzed phase or the dizziness comes back, and that's no fun.

My boyfriend can only have 1 or 2 also. If he drinks american beer, or cheap vodka, or has more than 2 drinks, he will have a migraine that puts him out of commission for at least 24 hours, and that's with drinking water in between drinks! I think I'm going to tell him about the gatorade, bananas, and honey though. It may just help him.

Drink a G-2 before you go to bed.  G-2 is lite gatorade.  I think its only 25 calories per serving.  So for a 4 serving bottle, yes you are drinking 100 calories.  But I would rather add that 100 calories than feel like crap the next day and go take down a 1,000 calorie greasy breakfast/lunch to feel better.

Another thing that I have been told works, and it makes sense to me, is to chug a glass of salt water (1 tsp into a large glass) before you go to bed.  Basically, the rationality behind it is that hangovers are mostly caused by dehydration.  Sodium makes you retain water. Salt water=no hangover.  Gatorade is also high in sodium, salt water just has less calories.

and mommakitty....if three light beers is a night of drinking then im in the same boat at you! Yikes!!!!

Chocolate milk helps me! Also, the night before, drink lots (of water)  :)

I'm not a big drinker (at least not anymore, lol) but since I started training seriously for a 10 mile race I noticed that even 2-3 drinks over a weekend would slow me down all week. I'd be worn out, would totally lag during my runs, not wanting to keep going, etc. So I've decided to give up alcohol completely until my race is over.   It's made a tremendous difference!  No more lame runs where I decide half way through I'm gonna walk the rest of my mileage.  And I'm running 5 times a week now whereas before I was only doing 3.

Now, I'm planning to cheat next weekend as one of my favorite bands is in town and I've worked hard the last few months, so I'm allowing myself a couple of drinks.  But after seeing the difference it's made on my training, I know I won't be cheating again till after race day.

Seriously?  You have a hangover from 3 light beers? Surprised

I don't consider Gatorade with 75 calories in 12 ounces to be all that high in calories.

Sure it's higher than water but the electrolytes will help with the hang over and it has fewer calories than the light beer that gave you the headache in the first place.
