I know they're not healthy, but I had 4 hours of sleep last night and a very long day ahead of me, so I think I'm going to need to invest in an energy drink to keep me going. I need quick suggestions - preferably as low in calories as possible. Any ideas?
Instead of an unhealthy, sugary energy drink, why not try a cup of herbal tea that will give you a natural energy boost ? I would try a cup of Ginseng Energy tea, I like to have a cup of it in the morning when I'm feeling a little low on energy and its zero calories.
I would really like that, but I'm about to run off to work and I'll need something quick to grab on my way at CVS or a coffee shop or something...
I like lo-carb monsters (blue can) the only bad thing about energy drinks is that it can make u feel bloated
a can of sugar free red bull has 6 calories.
I like Emergen-C.
It's a vitamin powder pack found on a shelf by the vitamins. They come in different flavors, but orange, tangerine, and tropical are my favorite. (The Berry or Raspberry one is pretty bad.) My boyfriend loves the cranberry. Great for on the go, just pour it in a bottle of water and shake. I keep some in my desk at work.
It has tons of vitamins and gives me a good energy boost. It's got between 20-25 calories. You mix it with water and it gives it a little carbonated fizz... it does have 60mg of sodium, but besides that it is packed with vitamins. Great for on the go, just pour it in a bottle of water and shake. I keep some in my desk at work.
your body can handle a lot more than you think it can (i say this since i sleep about that much on average and have been for a few yrs--i used to get about 8 a night before that. insomnia). just forget about it and keep busy. have a tea (black or green) if you need it. the more caffeine you drink the more likely you won't sleep tonight and it'll become a vicious cycle. really cold water jolts the system and keeps you up for a while
Starbucks can make a moderately low cal drink if you say lightly blended (or something like that). Its about 160 calories I think but you can go on the starbucks site and look up the nutrition info. Myself I drink a can of sugarless red bull too.
I can't have caffiene at all, it wrecks me. On occasion I'll grab a Cherry Coke Zero.
I used to drink energy drinks daily. They dehydrated me, gave me insomnia and made me moody as hell. They are bad news. It'll wake you up into a jittery, cracked-out state, but you're still tired. Then you crash and it's worse than just being tired.
Honestly, I've had no trouble at all with sleep and getting up since I cut out the caffiene and started running in the morning. I do better with 3 hours sleep and a 1 hour jog than with 4 hours sleep. And I'm an old man.
I confess, I drink a Sugar Free Rockstar every morning. 20 cals for the can and you get a total boost of energy. Gets me to work safely. I either get that one, or the Sugar Free Monster is the same amount. A can of Sugar Free Amp (almost tastes mountain dewy) is pretty tasty and only 10 calories. I hear those "5 hour energy" shots actually work too, but they're kinda expensive. Never tried one tho.
Never been a fan of redbull... Or tea. I'm not trying to say it's okay to drink vitamins, chemicals, and caffeine out of a can, but when the day calls for it, sometimes ya just need it :)
Good luck getting through your day.
Thanks everyone! I went with the no carb Rockstar for 20 cals... well worth it! I haven't had caffeine in god knows how long (I don't drink coffee or soda) so I wasn't used to the effects (felt quite jittery and a little light-headed) but it certainly got the job done. Didn't taste too bad either.
I use to consume so much caffeine it was crazy. I had no idea how badly it was effecting me until I stopped. It's a very bad way to go IMHO. For me caffeine caused carb cravings, made me angry and jittery. I actually have so much more energy now since I quit the stuff. FWIW.
Too much caffeine is one thing, but just having it on occassion in my opinion isn't bad.
My ex boyfriend withdrew from caffeine because he was having insomnia. He actually became addicted to it. I had to pour cans and cans of it down the drain. Depressing moment.
