How can I enjoy eating in Italy, but still drop a few pounds?

I moved to Italy from Oregon a year ago and I'm gaining weight. I'm trying to stay away from pasta and all of their savory sauces, but they eat a LOT of pork and heavy cream. I cook at home every night, but my in-laws make me feel guilty for not eating like a hog when we're at their house. I think it’s an Italian thing...

To stay within your calorie allowance, eat smaller portions and slow down to mindfully savor your food. Get more physical activity by walking for transportation as a tourist in Italy. Do not think that pasta will make you fat. Extra calories lead to weight gain and "fats and oils" is the food group with the most calories per serving. Fatty foods include cream, cheese, sausage, oil, nuts, olives, and foods baked with fat.
