I enjoy being a girl!
Are any of you familiar with that song?!?
"When I have a brand new hairdo
With my eyelashes all in curl,
I float as the clouds on air do,
I enjoy being a girl!"
Etc...
Anyway, this may be a random tangent of thought, or perhaps I'm just in a really good mood today :)... but I feel great!
There have been a few posts about women who oppose or enjoy wearing makeup, and reasons why or why not. I think every women has their own way of feeling beautiful, but when I was looking at their pictures there was such a change in the demeanor between the pictures where they weren't "done up" and when they were!
I saw a lot of natural beauty, which I think every woman should embrace and be comfortable with. In those pictures they looked more relaxed, and even a little tired. Yet, when they put on their makeup and a great dress, their face and body language became more sexy and confident!!
In light of this rant, I hope that all women take an opportunity once in a while to show off their best features and flaunt a confident attitude - the way only women can ;)

I usually feel fake and uncomfortable when wearing make-up and nice clothes. I wear jeans and a t-shirt every day. Almost all of my t-shirts are grey or blue. I do wear make-up once or twice a year some years but not regularly. I have always wondered why a woman would want to spend money on make-up and then take the time to put it on just to walk out of the house. Now I know. It makes them feel good. Lesson learned. I will no longer assume that certain things make other women feel the same way as they make me feel.
Same!

augustnkate - everybody has their own comfort zone! You should be able to wear whatever makes you feel good about yourself, and not feel like you have to spend time and money turning yourself into someone you're not! However, the times when you do dress up and make a little more effort - does it make you feel even the slightest bit more sexy? :)
I like my comfort zone. I don't feel comfortable in clothes that should (according to most magazines) make me feel sexy. When I do have to wear clothes that aren't my norm or when I wear fake-up, I can't wait until whatever the event is to be over. I feel sexy in my usual clothes just being me.
I like dressing in fancy clothes! : D
Most of mine are too small for me right now though. Which is very sad. But for the most part, I like to look nice and presentable. Dresses and makeup and heels, ohmy!
Especially heels. I LOVE HIGH HEELED SHOES. But I'm 5'10. So it's bad. But who cares, right? Who am I trying to impress? Now if I'm on a date and the guy is shortish, fine, I'll stick to flats. But if I'm just going out with my friends to have fun and I have heels that match, then I'll wear them.
I'm choosing not to be offended by the term "fake-up" ;)... but you definitely need to stick to whatever your comfortable with! If a grey t-shirt and jeans makes you feel like you're workin' it, great! If it's high heels and a black dress, fabulous!
I used to feel like I was the one who was insecure because I wore makeup, and I was slightly envious of the women who felt good enough about themselves to go all natural! Then I realized that it's who I am to want to look nice! I love it when my hair looks great! I love when my makeup looks great! I absolutely love getting ready! Then, at the end of the day, I love washing my face, putting on my sweats, and relaxing!
_emma... you should wear heels if you want to! As I said before, I'm 5'9" and won't wear heels because they'd not only make me taller than my husband, but I'd probably fall and hurt myself! Lol! But I love being tall, and I think heels are hot!
I generally wear slack and a top to work, sometimes a suit jacket. Quick, easy and presentable. Going out at night I generally take the 10 minutes to do make up and hair, particularly smokey eyes.
"Fake-up"? Ugh. Sounds like a friend of mine from highschool. If you wore any makeup, you were "cheating" to be pretty. I guess I'll just cheat and be happy. :)
I will admit, I am a little insecure when it comes to makeup. I remember in the first few months that I dated my boyfriend, if he slept over, I would run to the bathroom in the morning before he woke up, sneak my makeup on, and crawl back into bed.
I think it was like, 6 months into our relationship that he saw me without makeup on, HAH. I'm better about it nowadays, though. :)
fake-up heh

nah! a case could be made for plastic surgery - really altering your looks.
make up is just working with what you got! Actually highlighting the features yo mama gave ya! that's not cheating :)

Me too, I think they look lovely on everybody. I just have no idea how to wear them, I'll experiment someday.

And it IS "fake up", but there's nothing WRONG with it. To each their own! If some prefer to be more real, then let them, if someone prefers to hide their natural uneven skin and make it even (which is technically "fake" because it isn't like that naturally) then let them! I don't like being "fake". The reason I put fake in quotes is because the word fake can be taken very negatively, but it's not meant to be a negative thing. Maybe the word false might be better. Either way, I'm uncomfortable hiding behind make up. I do wear it though (black-brown eye liner, mascara, nude lip gloss, dark brown brow liner). I don't wear coverup or any facial powder because I despise that matte look. I also hate blush, it doesn't even look realistic, I don't care who it's on. I like to decorate my eyes, but I have no problems going out without anything on, I only do my eyes because it's fun. I think facial stuff makes a lot of people (including celebrities) look very bad, to me. I understand wanting to cover up blemishes, but people's faces have color! It's not just one solid color with pink cheeks... argh it drives me nuts, haha. And facial stuff over acne...no... nothing looks worse than bumpy matte skin. Those bumps honestly look better red, because they're supposed to be.
Anyway, it's just my opinion and I hope I didn't offend anyone here because that was not the intention of my post. I don't really care or really ever notice what others do with their face. The only time I notice it, is when they wear too much (and it's usually coverup).
As for clothing, I don't know why people care what others wear, as long as it isn't offensive in some way, I don't know why "fashion police" exist. You can literally wear anything with a pair of jeans and be ok. I dress in blues, grays, browns and blacks... I prefer earth tones. I love color, but because of my weight I try not to draw attention to myself with bright colors.
Where I live,it is so easy to strike out by simply wearing skinny jeans or a tight top and that is it...just showing your hair is such a friggin big deal..I walk as if I were some sort of a whore because people think that I do not wear a head-scarf because I want the attention from the pig-like men..since mostly all women cover up...and I'd be like...
Showing your arms is a big deal..wearing a shirt is a big deal...I wish I could dye my hair red..and just go out...but again,I will be " the whore " that wants attention and then she,of course, deserves what she gets..the harassment and the sort..
Smokey eyes make-up is something so hard for people to understand here...and I always wear smokey eye-make up..people would be like " it is ugly " when they do not even have the slightest clue what it is...I do not remember that I have ever seen another girl having smokey eye-make up here...for me,it is gorgeous...I love it...it brings out the eyes...
So...to have the right to look hot...is something many people who live in western countries take for granted..some women do not pay attention to their looks and they do not even care..oh man..if only I could look hot without having my breasts grabbed every other day..I'd truthfully be happy
I know I sound bitter...but...
Rant over :)

Are you really that shocked? Half the world's women must live in countries like the above poster's.
muttlover - I used to be the same way! I used to be so scared of any guy seeing me without makeup on, and it was much worse with someone I was dating! I used to be one of those girls who couldn't leave the house without makeup on, and I would sleep in it just in case we had any early morning visitors! That's probably why my skin broke out so badly! Lol.
Now, my hubby loves seeing me without my makeup on! He likes the way I do it and that it's tasteful, but he enjoys it when I wash my face and gets to see me. It's refreshing :)
greeneyedbellydancer - I agree! Makeup is just a way to accent the features you love! I'm not sure I'd ever have major plastic surgery, though. I'm just trying to age gracefully!
cptbunny & purespark - if I wasn't worried about having an embarrassing incident with fake eyelashes, like having them fall of or hanging from my eye, I'd try wearing them! I think they look gorgeous when done properly!
I also agree that the words "fake" or "false" aren't necessarily bad, but most people don't throw those words out with good intention ;)... I think to an extent makeup is "fake", but I don't think it changes who you are or what you are, but I do think it's part of a persons personality as to whether or not they where it! And the women out there who don't know how to do it so it looks good give a bad name to the rest of us ;)
afluffyadorablebunny - I also have to ask - where do you live?? I am aware of how in different areas of the world women are more controlled and have to live by more strict standards. Is that what you're talking about? (And I love smokey eye makeup, too :))
As I said before, I used to envy women who had the confidence and self-assurance to live without putting makeup on. But now, I think it takes a certain level of confidence to actually wear makeup, because it draws attention. It makes you stand out a little more, and exudes a different level of confidence.
And... it's fun!! :)
I enjoy being a girl just a little bit more than I enjoyed being a boy!

i can't imagine being branded a "whore" for showing my hair. sometimes i forget to appreciate how lucky i am to live in this country.
I love being a girl as well! I love makeup, clothes, shoes, and my fave.. beautiful bras and panties. I love to feel sexy from top to bottom, from the underwear to the outerwear. If I know that I have on an awesome outfit with a beautiful set under, I feel that more confident.

I guess not shocked. Just still appalled at women being treated like 2nd class citizens in far too many places :/
samantha--I live in Egypt..where the rates of sexual harassment are unbelievable...the men even harass women who are really covering up as well..and it mostly goes unpunished and nothing happens..the police officers themselves harass women..
And now when I am not wearing a head-scarf..when I show my hair..I am a total whore and I simply deserve what I get..
The other day on the bus..while I was on my way home..there was this guy sitting next to me and was hitting on me..I was gonna switch places with a guy behind me..so he threatened to hit me..right in front of other 12 " men " on the bus..so I hit him..because if I hadn't,I would have regretted it the rest of my life..it would have been me..just bowing down..and saying sorry when I was the victim..so I did,and then he hit me so hard my eye felt like it was gonna explode for days...What hurt me the most was that NO ONE did anything to stop him..NO ONE said anything..cowards! so called men!
Well actually one guy stood up to defend me who was sitting in the front..but then his wife or his sister was like : it is none of our business!! leave them!!
Anyways,so here..maybe in some places where tourists go..those places can be open somewhat..but the rest of Egypt is just typical as where I live..
I was wearing the head-scarf for years but then a year and a half back I decided to take it off...cause I felt fake wearing it..like I was not me..it is just not who I am following the rules made by oppressive pigs.

I wasn't trying to offend with the term "fake-up" at all. I was using it to describe how I feel when I wear it in response to you asking if I felt sexier with it on. I really don't.
I think it's great if other people want to wear it. I doubt I've ever even paid enough attention to know who does/doesn't wear it.

unbelieveable. if a man hit a woman like that on a bus here in Boston, that would most likely be the last thing he ever did.
you were a victim, and those men are worthless pigs for treating women that way. good for you going without your head scarf, but be careful.
