How to enjoy salad..... with salad dressing!!

Quote  |  Reply
We all know that we should eat more veggies, greens and salad to lose weight, for health. However, do you ever look at the nutrion facts on the back of the salad dressing, just sigh, and put it back to the aisle? Or that aunt who eats salads to lose weight but with half the bottle of that ranch dressing with bacon bits?

Thankfully with all those diet craze, now we can find those low fat or even fat free salad dressing. But for those who like theirs with full fat (including me, i just think it tastes better!), I just might have a solution..

When you are eating salad, don't pour that dressin over the salad!!! Instead, put about Tbsp or two into a little bowl. And just dip your salad in it. Before, I would put about 4 Tbsp worth of thousand island dressing on my salad. And when I was done half way throuhg, the rest would be marinating in the dressing!!! Yuck. But after I started dipping my salad, I don't even use a Tbsp of salad dressing. Way to enjoy your salad without overwhelming calories of salad dressing or dressing soaked wilted salad. I hope it helps you guys!!!

i dont use dressing. it has high amounts of high fructose corn syrup which inhibits your stomach to give the signal to your brain that you are full.

use olive oil. its good. :)

My friend showed me a trick . . . dip your fork into your dressing then eat your salad.  I thought it wouldn't be the same but it's great.  You get the taste of dressing and the freshness of the salad.
I second the dip the fork in the dressing, then pick up your salad method.  It keeps your dressing intake very low, but you get some with every bite - plenty to keep it moist and tasty.  Works great!

I love those spritzers - 1 or 2 calories per spray!

I also love the dip the fork method.  I use that whenever we go out to eat, and I only end up eating like 10% of the dressing in that little cup they give you.

Spritzers are good, but you know, I have found that the more I eat salad without dressing, the better I like it.  I can actually taste the veggies...something you don't really do when you use dressing...

I am in the "dip the fork in the dressing" club.

That way, the cup doesn't have remnants of the salad floating around.

I'm a forkerrr =) I also put lots of beans and tomatoes in my salads, so the juices from my veggies help create their own dressing.

I dip the fork too!

It's the perfect way because I get to taste all the veggies I want to taste (carrots, broccoli, baby corn, etc) but I still get a little kick to the lettuce! :)

Whatisbeautiful, what a great idea!  I'm going to have to try that.  I suspect you've hit on the solution!  Just add lots of juicy veggies to the salad and let it do its own thing.  :)  You're brilliant.
I throw in TONS of tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, and a sprinkle of low fat low moisture mozzarella. That's on top of the normal sliced carrots and red onions. Then, dip the fork method is my friend :D

i learnt it from my mom, actually. ^_^ it's best to just put the veggies with a tad bit of dressing and let them sit while you make the rest of your meal. so delishisssh. :P

Here's something else I do....

We have a salad bar at work, and, instead of starting with the lettuce, I add peas, carrots, cucumbers, celery, broccoli, bell peppers, onions, etc...and then i put a bit lettuce on top. And of course the little cup of dressing to dip into...

I figure that way the salad is more nutritious.

I just discovered raspberry vinaigrette spritzer  ;- a few sprays of it and a diced strawberry and it feels like a whole different type of salad.
^That one is my absolute favourite! Sooo good. I like to put a bit of feta on the plate first, spray about 5 sprays and then add everything else and mix it up-- it's amazing.
I like just plain red wine ving and some black pepper. Its the best alternative so far. The lettuce doesnt get soggy and its more zippy tasting.
I use Ranch Light dressing and its super low cal. That always works for me.
my absolute favorite is salsa!! at my grocery store i found this chunky salsa in the cooler near the fruits and vegetables and its awesome.. only 10 cal for 2 tbsp and its a great substitute for salad dressing!
I agree with the Salsa. I even use it for vegs. Celery cut up with salsa and mocrowaved is wonderful. And a little laughing cow cheese and its even better.

I just go for

olive oil and balsamic vinegar

We make a large salad for 5 people(2 adults and 3 kids)

put on about 1 tbsp of olive oil and 2 tsps of balsamic vinegar.  I personally dont use bottled salad dressing
