not enough calories

I am having a really hard time eating the suggested calories. the book suggests that I east about 1880 calories the day of a workout and of course a little less the days I don't workout. Currently I am lucky to get to 1500. I am just not hungry.

Do you think that this will effect my results? I am eating a lot more protein than I was before, just not enough calories. Thoughts?

I worry about this too. I know I'm not getting enough calories on the weekend. I have to force myself to eat sometimes. I've read, that if you get too few calories (ie. have too big of a deficit), your body will go into starvation mode and start hording all of the calories you are taking in, thus storing them as fat. On the flip side, if you are taking in too many calories, more than you are burning throughout the day, your body will store the excess as fat too. So, you have to experiment with what works best for you, to make sure you are eating enough to support your burn, yet have a small deficit (300 or so calories) to help with the fat loss. You need a minimum of 1200 calories a day, and that is if you sit on the couch all day and do absolutely nothing, so 1500 might still be on the low side for you, depending on your activity level.

Experiment with upping your calories for 2-3 weeks and see what that does to your inches. If you see no results, reduce your calories slightly for 2-3 weeks. Eventually, you'll come up with that magic number to stick with. I find that eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day helps me get enough calories, and keeps my metabolism revved all day long.

If I look like I'm missing calories for the day, I just have another protien shake.  EAS vanilla with water actually tastes pretty good, and mixed with milk or coffee it's even better.  It's about 120 per serving.  That way I'm also keeping the protien ratio up.

Of course, I say this with a grand total of three days on the program, so... Smile
