How do I get enough protein with ovo-vegetarian diet?
Hi everyone! I've been a vegetarian for about 3 years now. I was a vegan for about a year, but not so much anymore. I still try to eat little to no dairy, and I limit my egg consumption primarily to egg whites for breakfast.
My question is, how can I get more protein into my diet? I eat tofu and faux-meats, but my diet analysis says that I'm eating way too much carbohydrates, mostly from rices and other whole grains (I eat little processed flours, pasta, etc.). Oh, and I'm on CC for weight-loss.

Beans, lentils and other pulses (legumes) are a really good option. They still count as carbohydrates but they're also a very good source of protein. Don't worry though... eating carbohydrates isn't really what makes people fat. Eating too much food in total is the culprit.... fats, carbohydrates, proteins.... all added together. A healthy, balanced diet falls in the range of 50 - 65% carbohydrate, 15-25% protein and 25-30% fats. But you can have 70% carbohydrate and it's still OK. Watch out for faux meats and processed foods generally because they can be very high in salt and a salty diet can cause fluid retention, often a factor in extra body-weight.
Trim the portions, increase your exercise, count calories accurately (use scales rather than guessing) and your weight should come down without you having to radically change your food choices.

Thanks for both the responses! Especially the website: I track my food intake pretty carefully, including grams of protein per day, and I'm not getting enough protein, which I suspected. Now I know roughly how much I should be eating and how to do that.
