Entering P90X into Exercise Journal

Quote  |  Reply

I'm starting P90X tomorrow - anyone know how to enter the P90X workouts into the daily activity logs? Any idea how many calories are burned with each DVD?

I have been wondering this myself, but for resistance days I do weight lifting, for cardio days I do aerobics.  I am curious to see if anyone has good ideas for this that may work better then what I'm putting in.

I have had trouble entering in workouts from the Wii EA Active. I try to match what the workout says I burned with what is on Calorie Count. EA Active has the same weight/heighth info as C.C.-so I figure it's pretty close to accurate. I can enter Wii into the browser and it brings up some generic exercises.

Good luck with the P90x workouts-I hear they are great!

I don't know either but I'm a female and I just got my P90x to.......we should keep in touch to motivate each other and see how things go

I just got mine too... im starting tomm if you want  someone to keep in touch with about it just let me know. I have to look it all over tonight so I am ready to start. I had a friend that did it and she looks awesome. I am so excited about starting~!

Hello, I've done the p90x program and just want to say it's an awesomely challenging group of work outs you ladies are gonna love. I would say the best thing would be to invest in a heart rate monitor and figure from that how many calories you burn. What are your stats? Depending on the workout, I can burn from 250 to 370 calories. I'm 5'7", 126lbs and 20 yrs old. hope this helps.

My fat stats are 5'7 150 pounds 18 going on 19 years ....DID u eat what the nutrition plan suggest or what did you eat? I am excited about eating healthy but stressed out and confused about the whole thing cuz I was fasting...so I sacred the inevitable truth is I wil gain any suggestions?

I started P90X last Monday and I love it!  I am getting better.  It's pretty intense.  I ate really healthy last week then pizza and a crappy breakfast over the weekend.  I am back on track this week.  I can feel my body tightening but I haven't really lost any weight yet.  I was wondering how to log the calories here also.  I guess I am going to have to get a heart rate monitor.  How has P90X been working for you all?

My team at work - we are all doing it!

type 'p90x' into the weight log search box.  CC has the workouts in there

Hi There -

For you ladies on P90X, i suggest that you try out the "P90X Lean" verion of the workouts. It listed in the manual and has the complete 90 day suquence. Its what my wife did and she got awesome results...Her fear was that she would bulk up but that is not waht happened. The lean version hits more cardio, kempo, etc...

We both tried to follow the nutrition plan with a few cheat days and its working for us. We did notice that doing tyhe P90X Workout we started eating more calories than we were used to...then again, we were busting out to some serious workouts. I saw a video on the nutrition plan in a blog and apparently you can burn up to 700 calories on a p90x workout. It might be a bit too much, but if i burn 500 calories in an hour, its fine with me. Here the link where i saw the video: http://blog.extremefitnessresults.com/p90x/p9 0x-nutrition/

hope my braindroppings are useful. Keep pushing play!!!

Insanity Workout

I use Circuit Training for Weightlifting Days (and Plyo). I use Judo for Kenpo days. I have a heart rate monitor that (based on my age, gender, and heart rate) tells me how many calories I burned. So I use the calories burned and time it took me based on the heart rate monitor to convert it using the Circuit Training or Judo calories. For example, today I burned 1176 calories doing Kenpo X and Kenpo Cardio Plus for 78 minutes. So in the Judo workout, I enter it in as 111 minutes and it's the same calories burned. This way I keep my calorie deficit around 300-500 per day with 2 maintenance or slightly surplus days (5-10% above my calories burned) per day.

It's impossible to guess how many calories you will burn per workout because it's different for everyone. I highly suggest getting a heart rate monitor!

they say a number of times in the nutrition book that the avg person burns 600 per day on classic.

I just started P90 on Wednesday, and found that I could not keep up with the all of the push ups that they do! I got about 8 real push ups done and then had to switch to my knees. Will it get easier? i want to make sure I am not slacking so that I get as much out of this program as I can! I am not going to do all this work for nothing!!  Did you use the pull up bar or the bands? I found I had to change a few of the exercises as I do not have anything to attach the bands too, so I seccured them under my feet. Is that okay?

Also I couldn't do a few of the Plyo exercises yesterday due to a bummed ankle.

Just wondering if you found that you can keep up a bit better. I am doing Arms today, tho my whole body is still pretty sore from the last two days. Will it get better! lol i'm in pain!! Please help!!!

Also, do you think the Lean Program is better suited for myself since I can't do all of the Plyo? I heard its more cardio then Plyo. Let me know what you guys think!

When I started my first Round of P90X, I could only do 7 real Pushups. Now I am doing 32. You have to just keep doing it every week consistently and go for more reps every single time (even if it's just 1 or 2). Always go in each exercise until you fail and always add knee pushups or modified moves after you try the regular way first.

P90X is not meant to get easier. It should never be easy. You have to push yourself and keep doing more reps/weight and then you will see the changes in your body. Of course, your diet has to be correct as well or it won't be nearly as good.

Don't do the Lean program, stick with Classic. You will over time be able to do all of Plyo. Just take breaks and always finish the entire Plyo routine, even if it takes you twice the time. After you keep doing it week after week, you will get better and find yourself taking less breaks.

If you have any questions about P90X, feel free to contact me! I'm on Day 103 right now

OK so here is my take on P90X, I starting week 9 currently thats the 1st week of month 3.  So I've been at this a little while.

insanityworkoutfreak- I will have to say that I do not totally agree with you that women should try the lean vs. the classic or that they will bulk up.  I think it totally depends on ones fitness level, if you have a lot to loose or this is the first workout routine you are doin in a while then yeah maybe that one would work best.  It will not bulk you up to do the classics especially if you are in deficit.  It will probably turn some fat into muscle or help you keep the muscle you have while loosing fat but unless ur lifting tons of weight ur not gonna bulk up.  with that said someones body type is going to play a big role in this.  But it has been noted that you can not build muscle if your burning 500-1000 more cals then your eating.

I also say this because I was kinda worried about that too and I started with the lean, I felt it was too easy and I didn't feel it was a challenge. I have had great results from the classic.

herewegobeginner- ok as stated above lean vs classic totally depends on your goals and fitness level.  But Tony mentions several times do what you can do, you can still do the classic and if you can do the plyo, then the cardio X is the replacement workout for that, I would just switch to that if that is where you are struggling and what does Tony also say "Do your best and forget the rest" lol this workout is not about trying to be like anyone on the video or anyone else for that matter its about pushing yourself and being the best YOU that you can be.  Also yes as you go on in the program you get better at push ups pull ups everything.  I started out with a pull up bar and then got the bands because I felt like doing 5-10 struggled pull ups wasn't as good as doing 15-20 controlled strong moves with the bands.  And no if your referring to pull ups I suggest you get or make a door attachment I don't think that putting the band under your feet is comparable to a pull up or the pull down with the band.  the door attachment could easily be made with a rock and some sort of fabric you can put it in that has a loop to put the band through .  Just remember that you can modify everything to make it easier for you to do and as you improve you can get to the actual move.  GOOD LUCK

You CANNOT turn fat into muscle. They are 2 different cell types and they do not morph into each other. You can undergo muscle hypertrophy which means your muscle cells get larger. You CANNOT create new skeletal muscle cells. There is some new research being done that may prove that cardiac skeletal muscle cells can be generated, but there is nothing as of yet about skeletal muscle in the rest of your body. Again, YOU CANNOT TURN FAT INTO MUSCLE!!! It just makes no sense. I am currently a 3rd year Veterinary Student so I am knowledgeable about Physiology and Metabolism.

lol I did not mean it quite so literally as you clearly took it. but um thanks for the lesson.

i just got my p90x in the mail yesterday... have to get the add-ons... what kind of weights are yall using, and how much did you work up to? what else do you use? chin-up bar? the push-up disks? anything else?

i am 5'8 and 125 pounds, 33 years old. this program is probably going to kick my ass, but i know i need to tone up and not loose another 15 pounds. i was 105 last summer, but had no muscle, and little strength.

i think this will be good, but i am nervous as hell! ha. Tongue out

I use as low as 8 pounds for Lateral Raises and as high as 35 pounds per hand for the Calf Raises. I don't use anything other than the Pullup bar and weights. I sometimes use the Perfect Pushups handles to get a deeper range during Pushups but it's not necessary.

My boyfriend and I started p90x on monday.  We have a chin up bar and resistance bands.  After doing the first workout with resistance bands we both agree that we would probably prefer free weights.

For us the hardest part was deciding how to do the diet portion.  We ended not doing the set meal plan, but just eating from the chart in the book(we do use the recipes though).  So it took us FOREVER to decide on this and make a shopping list for our first week.  I think we played with it for like 4 hours on Saturday before we figured it all out and had a grocery list.

Good Luck!!
