Ereader devices -Kindle vs Nook vs Sony vs ???

Quote  |  Reply

I am interested in getting opinions on ereader devices.  If you have one and love it, which is it. If you are having problems with one I'd like to know.

I have been researching them for a while but am still not sold on one.  It's a lot of money to spend but I am an avid reader and the idea of having a whole library with me at any time is very attractive.

Thanks :)

My husband has a Kindle and loves, love, LOVES it.  As soon as I read down my stack of accumulated to-be-read books, I am definitely getting one.  Right now I am borrowing his to read a book he recommended to me, and I don't want to give it back!  I can't wait until I have my own.

We chose the Kindle because of the Whispernet feature ... with the Sony you have to download the book onto your computer and then load it from your computer to the ereader.  (at least it was like this when we looked at them, maybe they have updated)  We LOVE that you can download a sample of the book from Amazon, and if you decide you want to keep reading at the end of the sample, you can buy the book instantly right from your Kindle.

I can't think of a single negative.  Like I said, I can't wait to get my own.

062121 - Since you have a Kindle, I'll list the negatives and questions I have and ask if you know the answers.  I'm actually looking at the nook as well, but since it's not out yet, I haven't been able to find anyone to answer my questions.

1.  I heard that the first Kindle didn't support footnotes.  I read a lot of books with footnotes.  Is this true of the Kindle 2?

2.  Some books that Amazon distributed violated copyright, and were removed from all Kindles, without reimbursement for users from what I've heard.  Has this happened to you?

3.  Does the Kindle support PDF's and Word documents?

4.  Do you know how good it is about language support and availability of books in languages other than English?

5.  Will it support ebooks from sources other than Amazon?  What file types does it support?

I'm just here to bump this thread...I want to hear people's opinions as well, seeing as how I am planning on buying an E-reader soon as well!

Kindle all the way!  I have the Kindle 2 and I love it.  I can download a book within 10 seconds and start reading it.  Or, if I am lazy the kindle will read to me (which is nice).  I can access Internet pages other then Amazon, so I can check my facebook page or email with out having to pay a monthly fee, which is a big deal.

To Corellia- the new kindle does support footnotes, just fyi.  You can make your own notes, add bookmarks, and there is a dictionary built it to the kindle.  I am able to access most books that I search for, and never have I had an issue with a book recall.

I have no experience with Nook or Sony, but I love my kindle.  :)

I have seen a lot of hype about the Nook but they say it does not have a browser associated with the wifi.   Do you have to buy the ebooks through Amazon when you have a Kindle or can you take ones you have on your computer now and put them it?
