Maintaining
Moderators: iae

Hey all!

I was just wondering what calorie level your intake at a height of 5'7 should be to maintain?? I am 22 and am recovering from an eating disorder. I was just hoping that a few people could share their numbers, weight and height and calorie intake, in hopes that it will help me in my recovery to make healthy choices. Some people tell me at 5'7 to take in around 1600, while other sites say around 2,000?

What do you maintain at??

No one is around 5'7...gosh I feel really freakish nowww...haaa!
I am 5'7"!! I am a lot heavier than you are though -- and I will be 35 in a month -- so I don't know how to help you. I am about 164 lbs and size 8 bottom / 10 top (I am very top heavy!! hate it). Anyway on sedentary I burn 1800 per day so that would be my maintenance.  1600 might be accurate for maintenance for you but if you are trying to gain a bit you may want to try 2000.... can you ask a nutritionist?

5'7'' 1/2, 118 & 2000 calories  but im eating 2300 calories to gain weight :)

oh and im 18 & work out 4-5 times a week

linny! i am 5'8, which is close, 19 and recovering (as u know via the recovery forum!)

anyway...i have been maintaining at around 1600 but only because I am scared of the big 2000. sometimes I get up that high if i go out to dinner or am drinking...but I am also very active. I am excited to see other peoples posts actually, i want to be normal so bad and NOT count!

Oh and I am very very toned (im a workoutaholic because i played sports for soo long!) and weigh 120-125.
I'm 5'7" and I weigh 122 pounds. I'm a small frame, but I'm trying to shed fat that has pooled in my middle. I walk 6 days a week, and I eat between 1000 and 1300 calories a day. I would say you should keep your calories between 1400 and 1600 calories to maintain. Any more than that, and I find my weight starts to fluctuate up, not down.

im almost 5' 7", and i probably am, i just haven't measured myself lately.  i was 134 in august, but now im 144, which makes me very mad. that's what you get for eating bread and chocolate for 4 straight months.  well, i can't say i regret it :) anyway, im trying to get down to 125 by the end of march

how much you need is a matter of genetics, your metabolism wont be the same as anyone elses,

maintaining is a matter of trial and error, im only 5'4", people + calculators told me i need 1600 cals, so i tried that and lost 5lbs in like 2 weeks.

so i tried 1700 and lost another 2lbs

so i tried 1800+ and im maintaining :)

yyonah,

I am trying to gain as well.  What do you eat?

Yyonah!!!!

I havent talked to you in ages lol......its like you disappeared =P How are you???

-sorry to interfere with the subject matter -
I'm 5'7" and I weigh 145 but trying to gain so my calorie level intake is at 2500.   I was told my calorie level intake should be 1900 to maintain.
Jnetta: why are you trying to gain if 145lbs is healthy for your height???????????

i think any higher and it wouldnt be so healthy anymore.
I'm 22 (23 in two months :D),  5'8" and I'm at 148lbs right now. The Burn Meter says I burn 1800 calories per day, with my sedentary lifestyle. I think I might be burning more than that (I have a child to chase after, and I do have chores around the house, but granted I don't do a ton of running around on a daily basis), so I'm trying to keep the intake at around 1500-1600 per day. I'm just getting off of the very low intake of 1200-1300 per day, and I'm finding eating that much to be difficult.
5'6, 25 yrs old, 127 lbs, and not sure what I need to maintain. I'm scared to eat too much, so I'm increasing my intake slowly (aim is 1600 today). CC says I burn about 1645/day.

I'm 5'8 and I weigh 145 lbs. and I'm 22 next month. I work out 3 times a week and have a daughter to chase around the rest of the time so I need to take in about 2300 calories a day to maintain my weight. I usually get 2000 calories a day and I seem to be maintaining my weight.

I'm glad to hear things are going well with your recovery and God bless!

im 46 and 132wanting to get back down to 125 in the nest feww weeks.................feb 29 is the date i am working on

5/7 and hopeing to move down in size...good luck to you all

I'm 40 and between 5'7" & 5'8".  Dropped from 167, size 12/14 to 135, size 6/8 within the last year, just by walking the dog I adopted last January!  I walk 30 minutes in the am and an hour at night every single day, and 20 minutes to & from the train I take for work 5 days a week.  I try to aim for 1900 calories a day and have been maintaining the 135 lbs for a while now.

Congrats on the recovery!!  Keep up the good work!!

I'm 5'7" ^_^

I'm an athlete, so my calories to Maintain is around 2,400. And I'm a teenager, so that helps with that big number. I'm still growing and developing n' all that.

But it depends on your lifestyle, genetics, and metabolism. I'm busting my butt five days a week (unless I'm injured) for at least and hour a day.

So, you're not the only one 5'7" ~_^

I'm 5'8", 120-125 lbs (depending on the time of the month), about 18% bodyfat, size 0/2, and I workout about 2-3 times a week for half an hour currently.  I maintain on about 2,000-2,200 calories per day.  If I go below 1,800 calories per day, my weight drops like a rock.

However, back when I was recovering from an eating disorder and had been eating under 1,000 calories for two years, I gained easily on 1,400 calories per day.  So it could be lower for you.  But have patience, and keep pushing yourself, even if you gain a bit of weight...any weight that you gain will melt off once your metabolism returns to normal.
