Any 5'1ers in Maintenance?

I guess I'm almost set to stop with the active dieting and move into maintenance.  I have a pound or two to go, so I'm trying to stay ahead of the game by learning about the next step.  If anyone out there is 5'1 I'd love to hear your story.  I started all of this calorie counting, healthy choices and exercise to help me as I quit smoking.  It's been almost 3 mos (!!!!) and I ended up becoming just as addicted to counting as I was to nicotine.  Fortunately, I know that if I can quit cigs...I am capable of temperance, even abstinence when necessary.  So, here I am, 3 months without a cigarette, 6 lbs lighter, and a ton of increased stamina when I exercise.  Now I'm ready to take my eating/exercising to the next level and I have no idea what that means.  I love the idea of learning from others....so hopefully there are some good lessons out there.

Good job on quitting smoking!!! It's hard to smother addictions, including addictions to calorie counting! It's great that you're eating right, getting in shape and feeling better. Best of luck in the future!

If you want to know my story, well, three years ago, when I was 15, I was 5'1.5'' and weighed 135 lbs. Now, at the same height, I weigh 118. I never paid attention to what I ate before. I never exercised. I never worried about being healthy. I loved junk food and television and being lazy.

At school the next year, I started going to the gym with my friend. I still had no real concept of health and weight loss: I didn't even know I was overweight. I just thought it would be fun to get exercising and have something to do after school. I started to really enjoy it. After awhile, I was going every day. At the end of the year, out of curiosity, I stepped on the scale. 124 lbs. I remembered getting weighed at the doctor's office the year before and being 135, and for the first time, the concept of weight loss came into my head. I thought: I'm making progress, and I can do better than this. And that was when I got obsessed.

The year after, I exercised like a maniac. I exhausted myself. I didn't eat enough. I counted calories. I got down to 112 lbs. But I'd had enough. I was sick of being so paranoid. I got back up to 118 lbs, and went to the doctor. He told me that at 118, BMI of 21.9, I was at a perfect weight. He said that this was my natural body type, and I should stay there. I began to feel better. I got less paranoid. I exercised 4-5 times a week, ate right, and was happy.

Then I started university, and hated it. I was in the wrong classes with no clear goal in mind, and I was just miserable. My friends were in different faculties, and since I live at home I didn't get a chance to meet many people. I got depressed and started eating a lot. I binged 12-15 days a month, going over 3000 calories per day each time. I stopped exercising, and went to Starbucks almost every day. I got up to 123 lbs.

Now, the school year's over, and I'm making better plans for next year. I'm not quite sure what they are yet, but hopefully I'll be happier. I'm back down to 118 lbs. I'm going to maintain this weight by exercise 3 times a week, 1800-2000 healthy calories per day, and the realisation that food does not make problems go away.

So I guess the point of my long post is that it's important to maintain control of your eating. Choose healthy foods for the most part, a treat when you want it, and keep up with the exercise. Deal with your problems instead of smothering them with Starbucks and chocolate. And don't try to get down to a weight that your body type doesn't favour. It either won't last or will be impossibly hard to maintain. I'm not sure how much you weigh, but I hope that you're at the right point for your body.

I leave you now, with a final good luck and be happy! :) congrats again on your progress!!
I'm also 5'1" (25 years old) and quit smoking about 4 years ago.  But I enjoy the occasional cig when I'm out for a drink and am slowly diminishing this bad habit!

As a smoker I fluctuated between 105-108... once I quit I gained about 15 lbs.  I have an oral fixation and really just didnt' know what to do with my hands if I didn't have a cigarette in my hand. I chew gum, drink from straws, bite my pen, all that I can to stop my fidgeting.

Finally through diet & exercise I've lost the first 5 lbs. and i'm down to around 113 but to lose another 5-8 pounds I've become vegetarian (with the exception of a few protein cheats :) and I exercise as often as possible.  Despite the extra pounds? I feel better than ever!

Running is a breeze since I've quit smoking.  If I go out for a drink and sneak a puff... I know it's as bad as eating a whole tub of ice cream.  I'll never have the energy to finish a workout like I would if I wouldn't have smoked a cigarette in the first place!

Good Luck!  You're on your way, you're going to start noticing how great it feels to wake up with clear lungs and lots more energy!
Well, I'm 5'2" and have a couple pounds to go or they can stay on, it's okay.  I'm focusing on eating healthy and my  next step is increasing muscle mass.  I want to be strong and fit in my 40s.  I weigh around 52 kilos.  I saw photos a friend took of me and I looked "scrawny", which is not what I wanted.  Feel free to PM me :)  Nancy
Hi!!

I'm 5 foot even, and I just started dieting two weeks ago. Before injuring myself in the military, I was 110lbs...Now (a year and a half later) I'm over 150. Well, actually, since I've been on this diet I've already lost 5lbs (from 155-150). All I've been doing is MEASURING my portions and, of course, counting the calories!

Wish you luck, and congrats for the progress!

How many cals are you all eating?  For weight loss?  For maintenance?  Also, how often do you exercise?   I'm eating between 12-1400 on good days, and try to exercise 3-4 days per week for 30-45 minutes.
