Esselstyn and Engine 2 diets
Anyone read about Dr. Esselstyn's diet or his son's diet: Engine 2 diet. It's essentially a vegan diet..similar to Dr. Ornish but no oils allowed, etc. Any thoughts?
A vegan diet with no oils.... my immediate thought is 'cardboard', sorry. Food is there to be enjoyed as well as for nourishment. Any diet that restrictive goes under the heading of 'fad' and must surely be rather miserable. i.e. you'd lose weight on it, but you'd give up the second you had the opportunity.
I agree that that seems too restrictive. I wouldn't call Dr. Esselstyn necessarily a purveyor of a fad diet. He is very respected and he along with Dr. Ornish have published in journals like Lancet, etc. the role of diet in reversing heart disease, etc. I do think a vegan diet or one with fish which limits fats to 10 percent or less may make sense and is supported by science.
