It's not even 5 pm and I've already eaten all my calories for the day....
What do you do when you have the entire evening ahead of you and you accidently ate all your calories. I still have to fix dinner for my kids. Any ideas for me so I don't eat any more calories?
Drink lots of water or green tea. and if, after everyone has eaten (don't eat leftovers from their plates...we aren't garbage cans!!! . I ALWAYS ate crusts of grill cheese sandwiches and left over food because I didn't want to "waste" it) and you are dying for something to eat...eat a piece of fruit. or a cup of sugar free cocoa. AND do what I do. Go to bed as early as possible! good for you. You can get through tonight!
Thanks! I have sugar free cocoa and I also have sugar free spiced cider. I didn't even think of that. See, I knew I would get some good answers here.
I agree, drink lots of water!!
As a Christian, I have a scripture verse that helps .
It is Hebrews 12:11- For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Hang in there! You can do it!!!!
salad lol
That is my plan tonight. fat free dressing, salad mix and lots of water!
editing to add: no need to starve yourself. Just eat lightly. Soup, salad, half a sandwich. the cocoa is OK = but you wont die and your diet will not be dead if you actually eat something.
VEGETABLES! Personally, I like zucchini in the frying pan and steamed broccoli and cauliflower (both with a dash of salt). You can fill a plate with these and it will not top 100 calories - you'll be full and feel like you're eating a lot.

Wow, that's great. Words to live by for us calorie counters!
Don't forget the celery. if you eat it plain, you can eat a ton of it and barely get any calories. I tend to munch at work so i take a quart sized baggy of them and it makes about 40 calories? great fiber too. and they taste kinda salty naturaly so when i want potato chips (salt and crunch) i eat these instead lately.
SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED MORE BULK NO CALORIE CEREAL GRAINS in your diet...
You should try introduce more filler cereal grains into your diet...this will give you all the nutrients you want, fill your stomach and allow you to stretch those calorie foods, further.
Pick up some psyllium husks, rolled oats, spelt flakes, rye flakes or anything else you might want to try later. Then before every meal or snacking...In a 1/2 glass of water, add 1 tablespoon of pysllium plus two of any other cereal grains. Stir and drink this as is. You can get these cereal grains at most bulk or health food stores.
This trick will make you eat less of the calorie foods and there by allow you stretch them out over the whole day.
Also at night if you feel the munchies...this little trick will cut that craving back a lot over time.
Are you trying to obtain a certain calorie deficit based on your activity level each day? What about adding some calorie burn to your evening to accomodate the calories that you eat tonight above what you had allotted yourself for the day? I know that some may consider that exercise bullemia, but I see no harm in doing it every once in a while.
You should eat vegetables or salad and drink lots of water and you should be fine. I <3 frozen mixed vegetables, they actually fill you up pretty good and salad is great too with all those spray on salad dressings that are barely any calories...you can eat a lot of it and be full and not feel guilty :)
In regards to the comment about adding psyllium to water, ensure that you are drinking tons of water with it or you could end up bloated and feel like there is a rock of concrete in your gut. But I have to say eating high fibre foods (balanced mix of soluble and insolubles) has been the best diet...read up on the Fibre 35 diet, it is amazing, and every gram of fibre you eat doesn't allow 7 calories to be absorbed. So a day you intake 25 grams of fibre is automatically 175 less calories your body is absorbing! But be sure to drink tons of water (which adds to the feeling of fullness as well!).
Good luck!
I second the celery; negative calories!!
igloogal,
I appreciated your post very much.
It has happened to me... This is my strategy: I hop on my treadmill and stay on until I burn a minimum of 200 to 300 calories, which allows me to eat a light dinner. Once I have eaten my light dinner, I immediately brush my teeth. I also plan to get to bed early that night as the later I stay up the more temptation there is to start snacking. It works for me...
If i feel the muchies coming on I immediately brush my teeth. I don't know why but it makes the urge go away :)

I love that! Thank you.
The celery idea is great!!! I never thought about that. I get that craving for salt and crunch and visions of Kettle's extra crunchy potato chips come to mind. I was just asking this same question to my daughter last night. Thanks..this solves THAT problem.
Veggies are a great option. On Sundays I make a huge skillet of sauted zucchini, peppers (any color...or all of them!!) onions and mushrooms, seasoned with a little sea salt, basil, oregano and garlic. I portion it out into small containers that I can just pop in the microwave and reheat thorough the week. If you look up the calorie values of these veggies, you'll find they don't have much so you can eat a healthy portion to fill you up and has LOTS of flavor (not to mention all the good stuff (vitamins etc.) that goes along with the vegies). I do use a very small amount of Olive Oil when I make mine but if you're really worried about those few extra calories (by the time you have them portioned out into servings) you can use non-stick cooking spray as long as you've got a good pan. But a small amount of fat is necessary for your body to absorb fat soluble vitamins (such as the vitamin A in those beautiful orange and red peppers!!).
Three words: sugar. free. jello.
It's a lifesaver.
Drink some water, brush your teeth and go to bed. The extra sleep won't hurt you, and you will not be tempted to eat.
