Even prunes don't work...

Quote  |  Reply

I know there's been posts about this embarassing topic, but... nothing works. Dried prunes, prune juice, TONS of water (I sit there and finished a kettle worth), coffee, dried apricots, apple, nectarines, lots of different veggies, warm water/tea with lemon juice, yogurt, milk, flaxseed oil pills with omega3, multivitamin pills, not all at once lol. I FEEL bloated, and I was regular just a couple of weeks ago, until I went on a college visit trip and now I go about once ever 4 days (so far). I hate the feeling and I look terrible bloated... any help? According to CC, I get more than enough fiber a day (greater than 30 g)

try actimel. it works a treat for me. may take a little while to get working but it keeps me regular! or activia products, they are aimed at the gentle relief of such matters.

Try resting your gut for a day or 2.   Too much fibre, fruit, vegetables etc., can be bloating.   Go for a light diet with steamed fish, cooked vegetables, lightly stewed fruit, thin oatmeal, broths or soups.... plenty of water.   Small portions.  Give your digestion a break and it'll have chance to process the food inside.  Also, take an over-the-counter laxative before you go to bed.

Smooth Move tea in the evening before bed.  Let the bag sit in the water for 10 minutes and drink slowly.  Do not make a habit of it but it does work when you are feeling a bit stuffed up.

Other things that really keep me regular are steel cut oats with 2 tbs ground flax seed for breakfast.  I also take 1 tbs psyllium husk powder mixed with 8 oz of water/juice first thing in the morning followed by more water.  Also try first thing in the morning hot water with a slice of lemon.

And last but not least I take a strong probiotic supplement every night before bed.  All of these things keep me regular everyday.  I hope you feel better soon!  I know it's such an awful feeling to be bloated, but something will work you just gotta try them all out!

I've always wondered where to get the flaxseeds, or the psyllium husk powder... What's probiotic?

This is the psyllium that I buy but you can find them at most health food stores or whole foods market.  http://www.nowfoods.com/index.php?action=item detail&item_id=3456

Google "probiotic" and you can read about them.

I bought these when I was home last http://www.nowfoods.com/index.php?action=item detail&item_id=3561

Bobs Red Mill makes a good flax seed meal, whole foods market or trader joes will have them.  I add them to my oatmeal, scrambles and smoothies.  Another good source of fiber with a nutty like flavor.

Thanks for the post A-yoyo.  I've been having the same problem.  You are not alone!!!!  Before starting CC I was pretty regular.  I think it's the amounts of good stuff we're now eating that is harder for our systems to digest which makes us...well backed up a bit.  Hopefully the great suggestions here will help!!  If you find anything specific that works better than the other let me know.  Embarassed

Please keep in mind that the more 'good' food you eat like fruits and veggies and lean meats, the less waste your body has. Fecal matter is comprised of, you guessed it: waste. When you're eating healthy your body is using the food as fuel rather than excreting it as poo. Once every 4 days is extreme and I would recommend you consult a doctor. Something that doesn't help to move your bowels is stress. Just FYI :)

I like the word poo.  It makes me giggle every time.

I dunno - whenever I get backed up, I find certain activities relaxing too.  For some reason browsing in bookstores does me in every time... maybe you got all stressed out about college and it stopped you up?

Stress, huh? I do have AP testing in 2 weeks... *laughs nervously* Hopefully I'll figure something out... I'll let you all know if I find something!

Whole baked sweet potato, including skin.

Also, if you're not veggie, a full roast chicken breast, quite dry.
