Everyone: Hard or Soft?

Quote  |  Reply

Just as a matter of interest/curiousity.

What do you prefer when it comes to your partner? Would you prefer their bodies to be hard (muscle based) or soft (lenient, less muscle, a little fat)?

Or take it differently... say you'd have the choice between two identically sized girls (I specifically would like to know about this gender, because it is stereotypical for guys to be as tough as iron), would you prefer her to be hard-bodied or soft??

Honestly, I prefer both my men and women to be a little "squishy". But that's just because I find it's easier to cuddle up to someone who's not overly bony or muscle-y.

I love muscles but my partner has no interest in developing them. But I love him for who he is not what he looks like. As long as he's not unhealthy it doesn't matter.

But if I could pick he'd be "tough as iron" as you put it. The guys I know all say how they like their girls to have some "meat on their bones", but they all have posters of super fit (or super thin) looking celebs like Megan Fox and Kiera Knightley. Hypocrites.

Exact same with the guys i'm friends with! Kinda makes me laugh really, I think their ultimate ideal is cheryl cole from girls aloud from what i've gathered lol

But for me I must say to look at muscles are good, but I find I'm attracted to the person not just what they look like. So the guy I'm head over heels for is very squishy. Totally depends on the person I think =)

Soft! Soft! Soft!

Don't like the super thin at all!

I like women with hips and a wobble!  Nothing wrong with a muffin top either!

It's interesting how sometimes the things we may not like in ourselves are often sexy and attractive in the eyes of the opposite sex.

My girlfriend loves the fact that I'm big, heavy and muscular but not shredded with veins popping out.  She doesn't like the six pack look either.

i like a nice firm body to hold on to. im quite fit and it shakes me up a bit when i grab onto a flabby guy. makes me feel kinda masculine if im toner than my man.

but... for some reason im digging this guy who is "fluffy".

we can all say what we "like" but when it comes down to it we never really know.

Am I the only person who giggled at the title of this topic? Silly me.

Anyways. I prefer my guys skinny but toned. I've never found muscles attractive or, for that matter, anyone who looks larger than I do. I don't think I could ever date anyone even slightly overweight either. That sounds terribly superficial doesn't it? My bad.

lol yeah the title is kinda funny. And not that doesn't make you superficial. The whole point of this topic was to ask what physical attributes you prefer.

I giggled at the title too!

Anyway my husband is not skinny but no where overweight. When he went away to boot camp when we are dating he lost a lot of weight and even though I thought that looked good at the time I am so happy he put on a few pounds. He is still looking sexy in his uniform.

He has trouble with his self image though because in middle school he was overweight so almost every other day he asks me if he is fat and I say no. Than he grabs his little love handles and says he wants to lose them. He is in the perfect BMI for his age and height. We have been together for four years and married for two on the 18th of July.

I like big burly teddy bear type guys - I loved Al on Home Improvement!!!  LOL  I think my hubby is perfect at 5'11" and 205 pounds but according to his BMI he is obese.  Frown

I think it was Fabienne in Pulp Fiction who said it best..."It's unfortunate what we find pleasing to the touch and pleasing to the eye is seldom the same."  LOL

My boyfriend has recently followed my example (he's sweet, always said how proud he was of my accomplishments) and he lost a bunch of the "padding," putting on muscle instead.  [side note: his arms are like rocks and he's been working out 3 months - it took me over a YEAR to get hard arms...SO many differences btwn men and women...] I find he is better looking...but I don't like laying my head on his arms anymore...snuggling is definitely less comfortable!!  Oh well...

I love hard bodies in men, both to look at and to snuggle against. Lean hard bodies, not bulky hard bodies :).

I think my ideal guy (in my head) is tall and fit with broad shoulders.  He should be strong but not ripped and a nice thin layer of fat covering him.  I want someone huggable and for me that means not rock hard.  That being said, the other day my friend told me that he had been working out.  He said " feel my pecs" so of course I did.  Rock hard.  Plus when I patted him on the arm, I could tell that he had very defined muscles.  It was such a turn on and I have no idea why.  I think it just goes to show the difference between emotional/psychological needs (wanting that tall yet huggable protecter type) and inherant physical desires (sculpted body, strong and fit.)

On the flip side, when I was dating my ex we talked a lot about body shape and desire.  I was a good 75 pounds overweight when we dated.  He told me flat out that he was attracted to women who were physically fit, but that he liked me for me and that he liked my body because it was the body that came with me.  We would cuddle on the couch and he would comment on how soft and squeezable I was.  While visually he may have wished that I was slim, he loved holding me and loved the comfort that came with hugging a larger woman.  He even used to play with my stomach fat until I told him that I didn't like it.

Exactly. It's like, I've got enough smooshy bits for the both of us, no need to add to that

A hard man is good to find. :)

I like my man with some padding.  Not large but enough to cuddle with. I'm not attracted to men with alot of muscles. Especially when the veins pop out. Eww.

At least that's my opinion.

First of all, I was sincerely hoping that the title of this topic would catch your attentions and give you a little laugh. You can imagine what I was thinking when I was writing it and chuckling to myself. I'm glad it amused several of you. =)

Anyway, the main reason why I did ask this question is because I'm honestly really curious as to what everyone thinks. I know people have different opinions and perceptions, different likes and dislikes, but I've found that I (personally) like bodies that are 'squishy' and 'soft' (on girls) and hard (not too hard, of course) on guys. Nevertheless, I should be called a hypocrite as well, because personally I can't STAND being soft. Therefore, I have honestly obsessed about my body for the past year, and although I have never been fat (good BMI), I have worked out so much that now... I have a six pack. I have large biceps as well (not horribly big, but enough for people to gasp and step back in shock and surprise) and although I'm small waisted and most of my 'meat' is in my hip and bum area (which is something I fuss over all the time because I can't STAND the 'wobbly' bits of me), I'm not exactly very huggable.

So... to that... what do you personally think?

Me = thin-ish, hard bodied (muscle based) but also sort of soft. [I think I've seen too many pictures, too many movies (without a care in the world whether they are photoshoped or not) and aimed to reconstruct myself, not so as to please others, but to prove myself that ANYONE can be like that. ^^ Although being short... I don't think I can ever be like that. -sighs-]

I love soft and cuddly! A little tummy on a boy is so cute.

I completely agree. I don't mind overweight guys, but I prefer normal-sized, and SOFT. I've had hard-bodied guys and soft-bodied guys, and when it comes down to it, I don't really like to lie on the harder guys. It actually hurts my neck and I wind up just laying by myself. But anyway, my perfect guy is "average." Not overweight, but normal :) And yes, a lot of muscles are gross. The guy I like right now has muscles, but he's so soft and comfortable! He's not weak, but he's not a tough guy either :) at least not around me :p

last night my boyfriend and i were watching tv naked (it's really hot in portland these days) and he randomly looked over at me, put his hand on my stomach, and said "i love your body! you're strong and you're soft."

best compliment ever. although i am working to lose a few more pounds (i have about 8 to go to get to my goal) it makes me feel so good that he's noticed how my body has changed over the last year that i've been lifting a lot. i still have a fat belly, but there are strong abs underneath. i love how that's sexy to him.

Not this guy.  Gimme the blond girl in the Bowflex commercial instead!
