I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!

I'm 145lbs, 5 5, 19 years old, male. I workout four days a week, and on those days I lift heavy for over an hour, then run a half hour around 3.5-4 miles (400-420cals). I go to karate one or twice a week in the night for 90minutes. Without factoring the martial arts, I've been coming up with 2600cals to eat to maintain. I eat 2300cals (from fruits, veggies, and LOTS of protein, about 150g a day, and 40g fiber) and gain.

I wouldn't care that much, but everyone else eats soooo much more than me and does much less.

My brother is 110lbs and eats 2800cals a day, but he is on the wrestling team, but even before the season he did nothing and stayed at that weight.

My roomate just had knee surgery three weeks ago and doesnt run nemore. He eats 3000-3500cals a day, at least. Before going to bed he eats a butterfinger, granola bar, and power bar. Its sick. Anyways he doesnt gain a pound.

By other suitemates are the same. One lifts, but no one does nething aerobic. They are all my weight and height pretty much.

All these guys have cut abs, no belly fat, bleh, I try sooo hard and watch everything I eat. I just want to stop, cuz no matter wat im gonna stay fat, whether I try or not. Its not even bout the weight, i just wanna get cut. I mean just last year I ate whatever I wanted and only lifted and did karate and didnt gain a lb and was much more ripped. Ironically, it seems like running is making me fat. HElP!!! what should i do?

From looking at your pics, you look totally buff!  Smile  Do what makes you happy and healthy!

dude seriously, look at your pic, your so buff! it doesnt matter if guys have a little bit of fat on their stomach, if they have nice arms or whatever, its fine.

Jennamur is right. And while you wish you had their abs, they probably envy your arms and complete upper body. And if you are fat anywhere, you must of photoshopped it out of your pix, because I can't see any. But I understand your dilemma. I, too, feel like it's totally unfair that I've hit a plateau already while still eating 1300 kcals daily. Some of us just have to work harder, I guess.

Muscle weighs more than fat.

So unless you are a flabby cubby guy, which I highly doubt, you just have more muscle than the people you compared yourself to. Calm down.

Ummmm not quite sure what your complaining about. You have killer muscles. If you worrying why you weigh 145 which I would think as ideal for a male your height. Girls usually dont like scrawny guys and im sure most girls would go crazy over your arms. I didnt see what your stomach looks like but im sure its killer also. Dont worry you look great.

dont complain- u just need a girl to tell you she loves ur bod.

At 19, I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound.  Fast forward 10 years and I'm 30 lbs overweight.  Looking back, I wish I had the discipline to workout and eat right like you do.  Then, I wouldn't be in this mess.

But, I can see why you would be frustrated.  I would be too if I was around that all day - thinking that life just isn't fair.  But, is it fair that some people are in wheelchairs... or have learning disabilities... or a disease?  We play the hand we're dealt and do the best we can.

You're not fat by any means.  In fact, you have the physique that I am shooting for in my plan.

^ i second snapshot8d. sooner or later, the kind of lifestyle that your friends are leading will catch up to them some day (not that I'm wishing ill will on them, but you know what I mean). TRUST me. It will catch up sooner or later. If you keep up your healthy diet and exercise lifestyle that you are doing right now, then maintaining your physique in the future will seem like next to nothing since it is the way of life that you have been used to for so long.

And I'm sure that your friends are just as envious of you. Everyone has their insecurities and problems. Don't dwell on them. As long as YOU are healthy and know you're doing your body right, what does it matter about how your friends treat theirs. Even if their body looks "fat-less" on the outside, I'm sure your insides and bodily functions are in much better condition than theirs. Just know that you are doing your body well. Smile

And if this helps any, I think you are one HOT TAMALE. Cool

Honey, if you were any smaller, most girls wouldn't find you attractive at all. Most girls prefer a guy who's not smaller than they are. If you are concerned about looking "fat", then you really need to get some help.

Also, if you really want to lose weight, you know what you have to do - cut back on your calories and exercise more.

I think that what you really need is reassurance.

Unless you actually see them get on and off the scale, it's impossible for you to really know whether or not your friends are gaining weight.  But, just talking about you, you sound very healthy and very fit- surely better than ripped and on the downturn?

If you're eating at a defecit, excercise (particularly cardio) is going to use some of your hard earned muscles for energy.

However, I looked through your pictures, and I'm not seeing any problem.  At all.  People tend to be pretty hard on themselves, but let me tell you- you are HOT!  More than ripped.  So don't worry so much.

Wait five to ten years; if they continue with poor dietary habits, they WILL gain fat as they get older. My poor dad thought he could continue with his old diet through his life, and once he hit his 30s the weight started to pile on. I'm in my late 20s and have to work at it and watch what I eat to control mine.

Extremely low body fat, like 4% for a man, isn't natural. Around 9-10% is very lean and healthy, and a lot easier to maintain.

Check your measurements and consider body fat testing with a caliper or other method. If your body fat is very low, then you're not going to lose more, and if you're gaining but your body fat isn't going up, you're gaining lean weight, not fat.

your metabolism is prob well shot. you have engaged in big big binges if i recall?? eating 13 donuts?? and theres a post from you on the weight gain forum about you eating 3500-4000 cals.

this was definately more than you needed but if i understand it you were eating that for quite a while? why dont you stop freaking about your body, you are fit and healthy so stop screwing around with your weight and food

whew...i feel A LOT better. thanks everyone.

I never really looked at all the things you guys brought up. The fact that their diet will catch up with them, that it's better to be muscular than thin (for a guy), that it's normal to have some fat, and all the wonderful compliments about me being ripped:) put things into perspective.

It turns out my roomate IS gaining weight. Hehehe (not to be wishing him bad, but u guys know what I mean). five lbs since the surgery (I made him weigh himself). My bro has gained 5lbs too as the season started. I did not know that. Also, I had my BF % checked by a trainer...it's 11 %, which is how it was last year when I ate whatever and just lifted, which is good, since I haven't gotten fatter, and from what I hear 6-13% is considered athletic for males.

I think I was freaking out because I they were eating crap and i THOUGHT they were not getting fatter. Also, they do have more cut abs than me and stomachs that dont stick out, but I can still see a six pack when I flex so that's minor thing i guess, and my stomach has sticked out a lil, even since i was a kid, so thats jus how i was built. I also freaked out cuz the BMI thing said I was almost overweight, but I guess BF % is more accurate and that says I'm lean. I mean by the stupid BMI standards, most athletes/body builders would be considered obese.

Also...this is embarrassing but it's been like five years since I even went out with a girl, and they are all getting so much action, and I guess I was blaming my body for it since I have pretty much no other reason why girls go to them all the time and never me.

i think you have a prob and need to get help.

seriously making your bro and your friend weigh themselves so you can feel better???? you sound like a pretty crap friend to me

uh...chill out fidget.

i asked my roomy too (and he does often for wrestling neways), i didnt force him. and my bro has to weigh himself pretty much daily for wrestling. so yea, idk wat ur talkin bout.

Uh... maybe  you're NOT eating enough?

Put this in retrospect, I'm a 5'1 15 GIRL (95 lbs) who maintains on estimated 2700 calories a day. Granted, I work out a lot (about as much as you do, but I'm also on two HS varsity sports... working out to 2 hours a day, or longer on weekends on LONG bike rides)

Everyone suffers from low self esteem problems sometimes, it's completely normal.

Judging by your pictures you're fit and look great! Don't let your BMI get you down.

p.s. what girls find attractive is guys with self-confidence (big difference from having a huge ego).

Although I may seem like a hypocrite for saying this (b/c I'm recovering from an ED and have body image issues myself), but I find it a turn-off when guys are too caught up with how they look/weigh. For instance, my bf is slightly overweight, but has all the self-confidence in the world, and THAT is what I consider sexy. Seriously.
