Did everyone survive Halloween Candy ??

Quote  |  Reply

The grandkids all went trick or treating and there is enough candy in a bowl in the kitchen to feed half of Texas...So tempting - All my favorites are in there, Snickers, Butterfingers and Kit Kats.

I can't throw it out, because it belongs to the kids (they will never eat all that candy though)..hmm, maybe I can hide it in the pantry.

How did ya'll all manage to avoid the Halloween candy cheating?

Lyntex- Fortunately for me no one in my household went trick or treating this year. The kids living at home are too old. My son may bring some home from work if they had any extras, but it won't be much.

Here is a thought for you - the good news with most trick or treating candy is that it is in small packages - allow for the calories and have one or two! Try putting the chocolate type ones in the freezer - they will be out of site and will keep for the kids longer. It doesn't help with the other stuff, but that gets part of the bowl gone. Hiding it in the pantry isn't a bad idea either.

You are correct when you say they won't eat all of that - do you have a neighbor, co-worker, etc. who might eat part of it? That might be a good way to get rid of some of it. Just take it out of the bowl when the kids are not looking.

Finally, as I'm sure texmom will say - it's NOT yours, to eat it without permission would be stealing, etc. etc.

Oh, Sunni...

I didn't do too bad on the candy, but....We bought a bag of Texas Trash at a bake sale for exchange students.  I munched through some of that last night.

Result... not good on the weight this morning.  It's VERY salty.  So I'm wearing water weight this morning plus some extra calories I didn't need.

Plus I ate a few almond joys (minis)  Not too much calorie wize, but full of carbs and water retaining as well.

LOL!!!  I knew when I was doing it I'd be sorry, but I did it anyway.

AH well, today is another day.  The good thing is over the whole month, lost 4 inches and just about 10 pounds.

My kids got a ton, but since I walked almost 2 miles with them last night and I did the gym in the AM, I did allot for one or two pieces for me.  No more than 120 calories though and I am really not craving it today.

Now that being said, as much as I do love candy...they got none of my favorite, which is candy corn and sweet tarts....oh well.

It's a beautiful (but crisp day today) so I think I am going to walk outside in my neighborhood.  It's a ton of hills and the track is about 1.5 miles....I usually do 2 miles but all flat so this will be a good workout I think today.  something a lil different.

My son is "too old" so he didn't go, but my daughter did. She didn't get a ton like usual because it was raining, so we went in rounds when it let up some.

I had 3 pieces last night and 1 piece today, and that should be it.

Every year they always got SO MUCH that every day I would throw a few pieces away - otherwise they would be eating halloween candy until it was time to start eating christmas candy! It was never until almost all the candy was gone did they ever question where it went (you ate it!) when it got down to like 1 of everything left then I would leave it a bit longer and then have them toss the rest, and by then they didn't care.

Candy isn't really a bad point for me, so it's not so bad. It also helps I don't like peanut butter, dark chocolate, things with nuts, or chocolate mint things Cool

This is the 1st year my daughter did not go trick or treating. She never eats all her candy, she is barely 100 lbs @ 16. So there is usually always some left which my husband and I are always glad to take off her hands. But we didn't buy any to pass out either and No kids came to the door. But passing all that yummy candy at Wal-Mart did hurt my feelings a little bit.

Just invited some friends over and watched some scary movies and ordered in but I HAD NO CANDY! This is a first for me :-) :-) :- )

my mom brought a hole thing of candy corn over here for what I dont know I did have the serving size which was 24 pieces and then my son spilled them all on the floor which was the best thing he could have done for me but my teeth dont do well with candy so I dont eat it that much only around that time of the month

I made a huge pot of my version of a "white chili", but by the time I am finished adding to it , it's no longer white so I am not sure what to call it.  I start with 2 cups of cooked chicken breast, 1 pkg of lowfat turkey ring sausage sliced, 2 cans of northern white beans, a large can of green chili enchilada sauce, 1 green pepper diced, 1 red pepper diced, 1 onion diced, and about 2 tbsp of chicken "soup starter, plus one large can of diced tomatos.  ( saute the onions and peppers in a little olive oil before adding to the pot....and water as needed for the soup starter. Bring to a boil and simmer for an hour or so on low.  Tasted even better on day two.

I had bought a big box of pkgs of peanuts for the trick or treaters so I wouldn't be tempted by chocolate, but the peanuts have proved to be an equal challenge.  We didn't have very many kids at our door so  I am sending the rest of the peanuts with my husband to his place of work.

So goodbye halloween 2009, I made it through.

Cocoflanel,

How nice to meet you.  We have a TON left.  I'll take it to school tomorrow.  The students will demolish it pretty quickly.  Free food of any sort doesn't last long with college students.

Justme,

That is a victory of all kinds of huge proportions!!!!

Congrats Lluva,

And good job to your son!

Ibeck,

I would liked to have had your peanuts to go in that Texas Trash I ate...Whoever made it didn't put enough peanuts in it.   I know, I know.  I didn't need it, but I did.  Water under the bridge.

You did a great job.  Congrats, and your chili sounds good.

Texmom - pardon my ignorance but what the bleep is Texas Trash?

I made room for two mini 100 Grands for yesterday. But I cheated and had two cookies with whole milk at night. I couldn't resist. Promised Land is heaven in a little glass bottle. Ah, well. I walked enough yesterday to more than compensate, I think.

Resisted the temptation to have any - normally I'd be looking forward to frozen snickers bars.  But I'd rather use that 70 calories (1 fun size) somewhere else.

My son and I covered about 1.2 miles, and his pillowcase was about half full.

My daughter insisted I eat one of her sixlets with her (just one of the little pieces of chocolate), and that's been it.

I did fine on the candy, I only had one mini kit kat, but I didn't do so well staying away from the rice krispy bars in the kitchen at work.  I don't make that stuff so I don't have to avoid it at home, work.... entirely different story.  I just need to stay out of that kitchen entirely.  I made up for the bars at the gym tonight, but I really didn't need all the carbs.

Ok I have since eaten two more little hershey bars, my excuse was, however valid, my blood sugar was a bit lower than it should be and I did feel a bit off, and my neighbor brought us another bag of candy (wtf??) and my husband and he commented on how pale and drained I looked.. so.... I needed sugar for medical reasons :) so much tastier than a few gulps of juice :)

I buy stuff I don't like to had out. As for the candy, for me its out of sight out of mind. I put it in a tupperware (not clear) in the cupboard. works for me.

I'm glad you ladies made it threw... I was doing oh so well.. Till the bF brought home 4 bags of candy from the store for 'us'... >.<  Needless to say. I ate wayy too many.... :( I avoided those isles while shopping for a reason... then he stoped on the way home from work to get them anyways.... Oh well. Nothing I can do about it now.. Just keep moving forward...

There is still a bag of Halloween candy on top of the fridge. The first week it was there I ate two or three pieces a day - I was exercising a lot that week and could afford it. This week I haven't been able to exercise much, so I've just been ignoring it. I'm getting better at avoidance of bad available foods, and luckily I don't have a strong sweet tooth. It's my roommates' so I have to put up with it - if it were mine though, I'd just take it to work and leave it out for someone else to eat!
