Many people do retain water even people who have not had an ed.That can be because of that time of month, eating more, extra salt. For people who are in recovery from ed this can of course happen as well. I know for myself I have had  from severe water retention to a more normal level due to refeeding. I was told by my nutritionist people who have had issues with laxatives and bulimia when they stop they tend to retain more water. I think being consistent on a meal plan, eating every few hours, plenty of fluids but not to the extreme can help.

Yes, everyone can experience water retention for all the reasons mentioned above.  But from what I have read and from my own personal experience, if you are looking to gain/recover/re-feed from an ED, water retention is inevitable..

The human body is something like 70% water.... so everyone, by definition, has 'water weight'.   Fluid retention constantly rises and falls depending on how well hydrated you are.  So if you eat a lot of salty foods or drink a lot of alcohol it'll go up.... cut back on the salt and alcohol and it'll go down.  It's really nothing to worry about.
