What is everyones calorie range??

I was just wondering what everyone's calorie range is.  Thanks :)

Reason: LOCKED: CC's tools are not accurate for under-21's. The bare minimum for a sedentary teenage female is 1500 calories a day, no less. For a sedentary male, 1800. Any posts less than this will be removed. Please abide by CC's guidelines.

1500 to 1800 most days. Occasionally over 2500 (maybe once or twice a month.) (My average for the last month is 1700 or so, but I don't count the cream and sugar in my coffee or any salad veggies in that, so let's say 1800 for an average.

I'm almost ready to start maintaining, so I think my average maintenance calories will be about 1900-2100.

1500-1900, for weight loss, 5"9', exercise 3 - 4 days a week for 60 minutes minimum, 120 minutes maximum, sedentary lifestyle (student)

I am a 5'7" 28 y/o female and I weigh 132 and trying to reach 127.  I  stick to 1400-1500 calories a day during the week and occasionally go over on the weekends.  I walk/jog 6 miles a day, 7 days a week and strength train 3 days a week.  I have lost 74 lbs since June, 2007.

I am 5'10 and eat between 1300-1800 a day. I am pretty active most of the time.

You know - since you indicate you PM a "lot of people" with advice and are being really preachy ............maybe instead of worrying about fixing other people you should focus on your own issues. I found your post to be very rude.

Did you read the article you linked to about how low is too low - this site sets a safe minimum at around 1200 calories [which is where the lowest posters stated they were] and the article you referenced said below 1000 was too low.

I agree young girls should not be messing around with future growth and development. One thing the one link talks about is calcium and not calories.

Look at this link about what you are doing to yourselves with all those diet sodas and caffeine drinks! Reputable source. I have never seen kids drink soft drinks like they do today!!! And caffeine, at such a young age.

You're right, it was rude. But I'm hoping it got the point across. As for PMing people, I have only done so twice that I recall, but I have posted many, many times on the YCC forum about starvation diets. Many, many times. There are dozens upon dozens of threads and posts made, asking "Am I eating enough?" or stating "I'm only eating 1200 calories a day but it's okay because I'm not hungry" or any other number of things that are just not healthy. As someone with as much free time as I have, I don't have a problem letting them know the facts against what they're doing, honestly it makes me feel really good when I've helped someone go from starving themselves and leading down a road to an eating disorder, to having a healthy plan to keep or reach a good weight.

I can try to convince them not to hurt themselves, and I try to be civil about it, too. But if they insist on doing severely restricting, I think most people understand that Calorie Count is not the place to advertise it.

I did read the article, I cited it to reinforce the fact that it is possible to go too low without getting in the low 100's, not because of specific numbers.

While this site sets the minimum at 1200 for adults, we are on the youth forum, and the girl I addressed specifically is only 14. Anyone under 20 needs to add 300 calories to the base minimum, meaning the minimum for teenage girls would be 1500, and not 1200. The minimum for teenage boys would be 1800, as opposed to 1500.

I agree with you, diet sodas, caffeine, every thing's bad if you consume too much of it. I personally have never had problems with caffeine, and limit my consumption of aspartame and other artificial sweeteners to a couple times a week. While this still may not be healthy, it does not go against what CC+ is about: healthy, maintainable weightloss. Therefore I feel no need to try and overtly convince people that my way is right, because it's just my opinion.

Severely under eating, which in teens, without supervision of a doctor, is under 1500kcal/day or 1800kcal/day, for girls and boys respectively, does go against the guidelines of Calorie Count. It does drastic, scientifically proven damage. The damage from sodas and caffeine is debatable, this, not so much. Posting about consuming caffeine and diet sodas also does not trigger the members who have eating disorders, who have come here to recover, and expect these forums to be a place where they can find healthy influences to help them, not be surrounded by people starving themselves. It is stated at the bottom of the page that if you're purposely starving yourself, crash dieting, or trying to 'become anorexic' and have no intention of trying to stop or get better, or even just withhold that part of it, please do not post, because it is considered promotion of eating disordered behavior.

"Calorie Count Plus's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management. Please help our moderators follow this vision and respect the following guidelines.

....

  • Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited."

"Eating disorders are now the third most common chronic illness in adolescent girls. [Adolescent Medicine Committee, Canadian Paediatric Society. Eating Disorders in adolescents: principles of diagnosis and treatment. Paediatrics and Child Health 1998; 3(3) 189-92. Reaffirmed January 2001.] "

And it usually starts by restrictive dieting.

"35% of "normal dieters" progress to pathological dieting. Of those, 20-25% progress to partial or full-syndrome eating disorders (Shisslak & Crago, 1995)."

There were many other issues distracting me yesterday, I was a little crabby.I apologize to anyone who took offense at my bluntness.

Feel free to PM me your response, I don't know if we should keep talking about kind of off-topic things on this thread or not. =/

Original Post by rejoiceitssusan:um, no I didn't read what you just posted. I just did, and it didn't really affect me... the site says 1200 is the minimum, soo...

Also, I don't have the time to exercise every day, so I don't burn a lot. I might raise my calorie goal during the summer, when I'm free more.

The site is not designed for teenagers. The minimum is 1500 for adolescent girls. Also, it says not to lose more than 2lbs a week, which you're set up to do if you're only consuming 1200 calories.

You're probably at least 'light' activity, even if you don't think you are. Sedentary pretty much only applies if you're mordibly obese and can't move much, or if you're bed ridden. Using the information on your profile, and the correct calculators, I did the math for you again.

You burn approximately 2500 calories per day, which I got using a calculator that works for people under 20, which Calorie Count's doesn't.

To lose at your max rate of 1.7lbs/week (1% of your body weight), since 1lbs = 3500 calories, you would need to cut out 5950 calories a week (3500 * 1.7). That means you need a daily deficit of 850 calories a day (5950 / 7 = 850). Since you burn 2500cal/day, you would need to consume 850 less (that's your deficit), so you would need to eat about 1650 calories a day to lose at your maximum rate.

Maximum rate of weight loss usually isn't sustainable unless you're obese, so you would probably want to aim to lose 1-1.5lbs/week, meaning a deficit of 500-750cal/day.

If you haven't already, I HIGHLY recommend you read through the entirety (it's prettttyy long, though) of The Calorie-Count.com Diet, located HERE.

This is a BMI calculator, graph, and calorie-expenditure chart for children and teens from a reputable government source. Calorie Count's calculators, and ANY others that don't specifically say they're for those under 20, will not be accurate.

This is the Mayo Clinic's basic recommendations for teens' nutrition, which is different than that of adults.

And here is an article by Web MD that explains, briefly, the affect under-eating has on your body, again.

I got an e-mail that my original post (saying I ate 1250 cals per day) was revoked because it showed signs of an eating disorder. But reading the post by lynnlette, it seems that girls under 20 should eat a base of 1500 cals per day. And I'm 20, so how is 1250 cals per day an eating disorder? Also, my doctor told me that my diet was healthy and correct, so excuse my french but wtf is wrong with this picture?

For a female under 21, the intake minimum should still be 1500. You're still growing, if not just on the inside. Your body needs the fuel. And I'm terribly sorry if you feel singled out, but yours was not the only post that needed to go. While not an eating disorder, it is a starvation diet per what your body really needs and as said in the guidelines: "Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited". You can figure out what you ought to be eating from this calculator designed for under-21's: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html

when i started my diet i checked with my doctor. he okay'ed  the 1250. i think he would know above a forum or a website. im really dissapointed with CC.

Lots of luck for the upcoming years of your life, then.

1800-2000 Calories

:)

I'm 18, 159lbs and I eat anywhere between 1500 and 2200 - it depends on how active I am (and ever 2 weeks or so I have a cheat day) - and I'm trying to lose weight

  • 16 yo
  • 5'4.5
  • 2000-2500

^_^

  • 25yo
  • 5'3.75

  • 2500 and up

I'm 28, 5'2 and currently 128 lbs; my weight loss range is 1200-1550 cal and my maintanence range is 1600-1800 cal (based on SparkPeople); CC puts me at 1600 cal

I'm 17, about 5"7/8 and weigh approx 142 lbs. I eat 1800 to lose but lately haven't been doing as much exercise so am pretty much maintaining on 1800. Some days I end up going over, some days I am a little bit under....I don't mind - it balances itself out and it's not good to be too obsessive about it I've found

:)

15 years old, 5'4, 110 lbs.,

1600 with NO activity. i add on whatever i burn with exercise... usually end up eating about 2000 calories

oh, and im maintaining

2,700 maintenence - I could probobly lose on anything less. Trying to gain, I'll need like 3,000 +.

I'm sorry but 1) the calculator on the link is based rediculously high and 2) I'm not starving myself. If I'm hungry, I eat healthy food. 3) If I seriously, ate over 2000 calories a day, I would be overweight. Believe me, I've tried it. I was overweight eating the amount of calories the guidelines recommend.

I don't know if everyone else wants to trust a site, or their body. But I think I'm going to trust my body.
