Everything is good about CC..except the actual calorie counting

Calorie Count has awesome weight logs, awesome self records, awesome forum, awesome EVERYTHING

EXCEPT....the food log SUCKS. It is never updated with new foods and specials from fast food restaraunts and it doesnt even have some old things. I can google the calories in any food and find them on 8 other sites but not this one..which makes it hard to log my calories because I have to manually make my own food in the food log.

Does nayone else notice this?

Yes, and it drives me batty, too.  I've been here since October of this year and have had to manually input a good 70% of the foods I eat, which just like you mention, are in the databases of almost every other health/weight related site.

There is the 'Suggest a Food' option. Found Here

Although, having never used it myself I can't tell you how fast it takes them to upload something.

I tend to log most of my foods manually even if they are in the database. After I've entered the item manually in the protion size I serve, I tag it so that I can easily find the item. This allows me to easily update the info if the manufacturer makes changes. I figure the info from the package is generally the most accurate anyway.  The only foods I log straight from the database are whole foods, ie fresh fruit/veggies, whole grains, fresh meats.

I almost never have a problem.  That's mainly because I hardly ever use packaged foods.  It's easy to find fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, dairy products, lean fish and poultry, and good fats like olive oil.

Since joining in January, 2006, I've completely changed the way I live, cook and eat.  Logging became second nature and, as I said, I seldom have a problem finding what I need in the database.

My suggestion is to stop buying packaged foods and going to fast food restaurants.  You'll curse me for now but thank me later.

By the way, the database is always growing.  As mentioned, you can suggest a food.  Many are added each day, but you may have to wait for them to be loaded into the database since that's done in batches.  When you suggest a food, include as much label information as you can, including the name of the manufacturer and where they are located.  If there's a phone number or address on the package, include it.

This site is actually where I find things like that.....When lookng something up search by restaraunt like burger king instead of whopper. I found the calories for the packets of sweet and sour sauce the other day. It does work for me..........

i just went and looked it up again. Here are the ones I looked up quick and found. Burger King, McDonalds, Subway, and Taco Bell. If you cant find things by the item try looking it up by the maker of the item such as kraft instead of cheese. Bad example but I think you get the point Im trying to make. But they are there.

calorie counting does not work at all for me

if i add 375 grams of a recipe i made i get the same amount of calories as if i had added 250 gram or 500 grams.

am i doing something wrong or is the calorie counting part broken?

you have to manually change the amount for a recipe, which means recalulating every time you eat a serving that has not been set when the recipe was placed in the system

that sucks...

how can a function that seems so easy to fix be so broken or not done at all?

Making the nutritional values change regarding to the serving size (in grams) should not be a problem since the (index) value already have been calculated for one serving/weight amount.  Its not rocket science.

Until they fix this problem, can I by using the information  from the nutritional analysis of my recipe create a food item (step 2 in food log) and then use that instead? Will it recalculate properly?

alot of the programing functions seem very primitive compared to many social networking sites, so i've learned to be generous with limiting my expectations.

for food logs, i do what someone else has mentioned, in my personalized items, i make two entries, one of a full serving, and another for a half serving, so for instance if i add an item that is 160 cal a cup, and i tend to eat a half cup (or a cup and a half), i tag it as both a full cup at 160 and a half cup at 80 in my tagged items, and note that in the title, so i can click the one i want quickly.

so when im actually logging, if i had a cup and a half, id add both. if i had two cups, id add the full cup two times, and so on. otherwise, id be too frustrated to deal with it, but the extra set up time is paying off in me actually using the tool, so until its programed with more sophistication, i have to be smarter than the programing, and so far so good, most days at least!    ;p
