Am I an evil conservative hate-monger? ::The other side to Phylbean's post:: :)
Or just a good conservative?
This thread is explores the “other side” of the Phylbean post titled “Am I unpatriotic”. P.S. Phylbean, the answer is no. ![]()
1) I do support the war in Iraq, the surge, AND the troops. I wasn’t a fan of the war at the beginning, but we are there now and we are winning. The number of U.S. combat deaths in September dropped 86 percent from where they were a year ago for September, making it one of the least deadly months since the war began. Violence against Iraqi civilians is also down about 70%. We've turned over more and more provinces to Iraqi control...their infrastructure is being rebuilt and their economy is on the rise. Iraq's oil production is up to around 2.5 million barrels per day and they just posted a budget SURPLUS of $70 billion. In fact, the Surge has worked so well, it now seems that we will start withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. WOOT!
2) Flag-burning is our right as Americans, but if I see someone burning a flag, I will send glares your way. Why? For me, our flag symbolizes my hopes for our country, our troops, our way of life, and all of those who have fought for it. If you want to make a statement, fantastic. Make a sign, organize a march, get involved!! You can make much more of a difference doing the above then burning a flag.
3) I believe taxes are need to a certain extent, but personal responsibility should remain on the forefront of our minds! I don’t want my money going to some research study concerning cross breeding two types of fish. I don’t want my money going to someone else’s heath care unless they have a serious life-threatening problem. I do NOT want it going to someone who by choice dropped out of high school, and surprisingly can’t find a job. I want to save my money for my retirement and my children’s future.
4) I believe that the life begins at conception. I believe that all abortion should be illegal, except in cases that risk the mother’s health. People can do whatever they want, have sex with whoever they want, with as many people as they want. That is their choice. Once a woman becomes pregnant though, all of that goes out the window. I think adoption should be focused on more.
5) I am not the hugest fan of W., but I don’t think he is evil or stupid, and I certainly don’t hate him.
6) I also believe that everyone has the right to practice whatever religion they want to. I believe in the separation of church and State. However, I am annoyed when I see the full fledged attack on Christians in our media, schools, and general society. If half of the things I hear demeaning Christianity were said about the Jewish faith or the Islamic religion, there would be a revolt. Just saying.
7) I like guns. I go to the fire range every other week to shoot guns. I don’t mind backround checks, or mental heath checks, but don’t even try to take away my guns! I’m sorry, but if someone enters my home in the middle of the night and starts up the stairs where my baby girl sleeps, I am using my gun and I aim well.
Cheers. ![]()

Well it would appear crazi, at least from the general consensus of this thread and the hostility/attitude displayed towards most conservatives, that we are indeed evil hate mongering people whose mission in life is to hold people down and take away peoples choices, and have no ability to think or reason on our own.
Interesting, at least its good to know how some people feel about us.
It's never the same from the outside looking in.

You do want to take away peoples' choices. You want to take away a woman's right to do what she wants to her body, you want to refuse rights to the LGBT community... What kind of opinion do you think people will have of you if all you spout out is how women should be forced to have rape babies and gays deserve 0 rights?

I think, with only a few exceptions, we've been pretty respectful of one another. It is regrettable that you don't see it that way. :/

Yep. Why do you think I titled the thread "Am I an evil conservative hate-monger?" That is our "stigma" from some loud mouth libs.
You don't believe in abortion? Oh, you must be a religious right wing nut. You like guns? Oh, well that's because you just want to kill people. You support the war? Obviously, you just want people to die. You want to save your money and pay lower taxes? You clearly are selfish and think nothing of yourself. You will not be voting for Obama? You are a evil Conservative hate monger. Oh, and your racists too.
I find it amusing, and pretty sad at the same time.

You are right, most people have been respectful, but they can be respectful and still feel that way about conservatives. And I am not saying it is either deserved or not (and I am not saying all feel this way) it was just an observation how it appears most people who aren't conservative think about and view us.
And conservatives are no better, because a lot of them view most liberals as baby-killing hippies who just want to take away our hard earned money and give it to people who have never done anything to deserve it. Again I am not saying whether it is deserved or not, it is just the general opinion a lot of conservatives have towards liberals.
It is a shame both sides have this view point rather than trying to see how the other side views things and coming to compromises about things, rather then just seeing it as the other sides view and therefor inherently evil/wrong/stupid.
You like guns? Oh, well that's because you just want to kill people.
'gator likes guns. she's not a right-wing regligious wing nut who would take away my reproductive rights.

We are polarized because we have an important election nearing. The outcome of the election is important to all of us and as long as there are multiple parties and multiple candidates people will have differences of opinion. The election is an Us v. Them situation. In the end we will continue to work together because our forefathers were clever when the set up the structure of our government.
The debate won't end with the election, these issues will remain unresolved and popular opinion will continue to ebb and flow. I'm of the opinion that the number of right wing conservative and left wing liberals out there are few with most of us falling in the middle somewhere. This is why we can have a Democratic President for 8 years followed by a Republican President for 8 years.
It's the job of the candidates to hit the public hot buttons and stir up the types of debates that we have been having here. The more passionate they can make us feel about the issues that are important to us the more likely we are to get out and vote. The voter turn out in this country is appalling but the is a subject for a different discussion.
trh, while i appreciate your interpretation, you can trust me on this: i am always passionate about my right to make decisions about my body. i am always passionate about our obligation to take care of each other. and i will always argue that basic human rights should be universal, and universally guaranteed. your election doesn't have that big an impact on me.

I'm with you here. I wish today was election day so we could get this over with. Most of us know what button we are going to press, and at this point I am sick turning on the tv and seeing ad after ad telling me who I should and shouldn't vote for. After the election, either way, I will support my president and my country. I truly hope the rest of the nation will do the same, no matter who wins.

Honestly? Based on what you've said in this thread, and in others, I can't see you ever supporting Obama if he wins.

Would I be jumping for joy if he is elected? Heck no. I will probably go into a morning period. Will I support him? Yes. He would be my president. Would I agree with many of his choices and decisions? Again, not likely. But, I would get over it.

not trying to be difficult here, but what does that mean? how do you go about supporting your president?
Crazi... you'd prob. do what I've done in regards to Bush... b**** and moan the whole time. Zero support.
At least she is not saying that she will leave the country if her candidate doesn't win.
I have been anti GWB from the moment he took office. I have no respect for him as a leader. I have no respect for his intellect. I have no support for almost every single decision he has made. I am embarrassed that our country elected him twice. I am ashamed at how the US has conducted itself over the last 8 years on the world stage. I am ashamed at the lies told by our administration.
I supported him with my tax dollars because I didn't want to go to jail.
Well for one, he is the president and should be treated with respect. I remember hearing many many liberals say when Bush was elected "He is not my President, I didn't vote for him". Well he is your President if you are a citizen, so you should support him and respect the position. That doesn't mean agree, just like I haven't agreed with everything Bush has done, but he is president and a certain level of respect is deserved. I would never say Obama is not my President if he is elected, and I would continue to love my country and work towards making it the best place possible, not just give up on it because Obama is elected.

The difference would be that I would likely be loud about his policies, but I wouldn't be hateful towards him. I don't agree with many of the decisions that Bush has made, but I don't hate him. The same would be with Obama, or McCain.
Pg- Read what I said to Ali, and I want to add that I love my country and I respect the way it is designed as well as the role of the president. The president’s role is not designed to go by what the majority (51%) of the people want necessarily. I am prepared for this, for both choices, and I do believe that all of the presidents we have had as well as the people currently running have our best interests at heart. I will respect my president and his/her choices. But, I will always question them (many times loudly).
