Evil cookie-pushing Girl Scouts :)

Quote  |  Reply

So, I've been trying to avoid the Girl Scouts and their delicious cookies, but they finally caught me coming out of the supermarket yesterday. I just can't bring myself to turn them down, A) because I think that the Girl (and Boy) Scouts are a good organization to support, and B) because their cookies are friggin' delicious!! :) I managed to control myself and just bought 2 boxes of Thin Mints. When I got home, I put them directly in the freezer and later last night, allowed myself to have 4 of them.

Right now, however, I am sitting at my desk, suffering from a TTOM chocolate craving, and all I can think about is getting home to my yummy Thin Mints...damn you Girl Scouts!! :) Anyone else having Girl Scout cookie control issues?

My wife just bought 6 boxes of several different girl scout cookies, but she's BANNED from eating them. I had one thin mint last night, and boy did I feel guilty!

I've gotten to far ahead in my diet goals that I cannot simply look that far back and fail myself. Be strong, stay strong! =)

Holy crap, yes.  My mom and I are being accountability partners and we agreed to have a Girl Scout Cookie weekend.  I told her up front that there was no way in the universe I would be able to eat Thin Mints in any kind of moderation.  We agreed on 1 box of Thin Mints, 1 box of Lemonades and 1 box of Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies.  The order hasn't come in yet, but when it does, there will be crumbs flying everywhere for one delicious weekend.  Yummmm.

I looked at the ingredient list, and that was more then enough for me to say "no thank you".

I've had my fill of girl scout cookies. My mom brought home four boxes of pb sandwiches, my fave. So, I've gotten my fill. I ate too many of them, and hid the other boxes out in my mom's car so I would not be tempted. And I haven't seen any since!!

I don't personally know any girl scouts so I haven't had this temptation. My personal favorites are the peanut butter patties, thin mints and shortbread. Mmm.

I guess back at home one of the neighbor girls sold my parent's candy (but oddly no cookies...WTF?!)

However, I am going to my parents place in about 2 weeks and the local church is selling home made Easter candies to support the church. Oh man, they are soooo good. They usually make big chocolate Easter eggs with candy decorations on them. Filled with either Peanut Butter, Coconut, etc. I already told my mom to order me a peanut butter one. They are so massive so I better be careful with it. Foot in mouth

So where one temptation is avoided there's another...Heh. No way I can pass up peanut butter and chocolate together though!

i loooove pb!! those easter eggs sound good.

First off, the title of this thread made my day. And YES! I had to pass a stand on the street when I was walking around working on an article, and I felt bad not buying any boxes (cause I'd totally buy seven).

Those ones with the caramel and chocolate drizzle with the coconut (I think it's coconut) are the bane of my existence - soooo good.

I must say I know right where all of you are.. they are so tempting!

But, I must add. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

I am a leader and this year my troop has sold 2200 boxes of cookies which allows them to go see Demi Lovato (Disney Channel star) in concert.

We are grateful for so much support.

I am sorry that we stand outside the grocery stores, but without this fundraiser, we wouldn't get to do any activities!

My daughter is an evil cookie pushing girl scout!

Because of that I usually end up buying 10-15 boxes because she is my daughter. I can down a box of Samoas in under a minute and go for another box!

I try not to open a box unless I am really in the mood to binge a bit because I WILL eat an entire box. I freeze them too.

Once the cardboard strip is ripped thoguh all bets are off but if they are in the freezer ...out of sight is out of mind. We ate our last box from last year 2 weeks before we got them this year Not bad but oh they are the devil!!!!

i do not keep them in the house, i gave mine away... FH took them to work

The girls scouts every spring multiply and take over my town!! They're sitting there all cute with their table in the grocery store, I saw 3 adorable cookie pushers at Target the other day and they even seem to get a kiosk in the mall and chase you down until you order from them lol!

My boyfriend's mom ordered him 2 boxes of tag-a-longs and a box of thin mints from a woman she works with. He ate all the tag-along (minus the box in the freezer) so went to the grocery store to buy some groceries and got nabbed by a cookie pusher and bought 2 more boxes of thin mints!

Where my brother works, there are 16 people on his floor in their office, only one other is male. My brother is department head so he has an actual office. He said the other day he was sitting at his desk and hears someone tap on his glass wall. He looked up and one of the ladies slammed a box of thin mints and a box of somoas into the glass screaming "CLAYTON, SARAH'S GOT EXTRA COOKIES TO SELL!!!" Needless to say he added 3 more boxes to his order, after he got off the phone with his 7 month pregnant wife :-).

I remember being an evil girl scout and actually not liking the cookies. Now I love them! I think they are little boxes of danger so I just buy the Edy's/Dryer's girl scout cookie slow churned ice cream :-)

this topic came up in a friends journal, and i read two fabulous comments there.

one of the women asks the girl scout her favorite kind, buys a box, and gives it right back to the seller.

another told about a troupe that offered to send the cookies to soldiers over seas if people said "i cant eat them." THAT is some good marketing! people bought and the boxes went to soldiers.

And THAT's why I buy them!! I love to support the scouts....I was never in the Girl Scouts, but my brother and dad were involved in the Boy Scouts and my boyfriend was an Eagle Scout, so we always try to support them.

I really do love the cookies though....a little too much! :) I love the idea that someone else posted about people buying cookies to send to the soldiers. What a great idea!!

In our area it is called "Operation Cookie Drop" when people want to support the girls but don't want the cookies.

We take the money and buy a box of cookies for the troops.   The goal here is for each Soldier that leaves Camp Aturbury(not sure if that is spelled correctly) to take 1 case ( 12 boxes) to Iraq or Afghanistan with them.

It hasn't been such a big hit but it is out there, people don't realize how big of a hit the Girl Scouts have taken due to this sucky economy! My troop has sold more than any other troop in our county.  (I work at the local Jail/Sheriff's Office/911-Dispatch so I have sold, and continue to sell to my co-workers)

I just wanted to through this out here.

BUT THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE SUPPORT!!!!

the local boy scout troupe is selling coffee and almonds. i bought some. both are within my eating plan, and they are organic and the coffee is free trade. i thought that was pretty cool, so i forked out money i don't really have to support the shift from sugar to social responsibility.

you guys think you have it bad, my sister is a girlscout!!

constant boxes of girlscout cookies in my housee!!

I have purchased 18 boxes of those cookies and have eaten 4 boxes all by myself (each box in one sitting).  I have 2 more boxes of the Caramel Delights but I refuse to open them now as I am just get remotivated.  LOL.  I love this thread.

Lols I bought a box of thin mints from my little sister. I Keep them in the freezer. No guilt in one or two once in a while but BOY is it hard.

If you think the cookies are evil try the ice cream. 1.5 quarts made with crushed up tagalongs lasted about 3 days.  The chocolate spiked with thin mint chunks is next.

The ice cream form is around 150 calories per half cup and is probably a little more nutritious than the cookies themselves.  And believe me it was counted.

A good thing for your diet, but a bad thing for your pocketbook is the size of the box of cookies. Because of "economic issues" there are less cookies per box because the price of ingredients has gone up. I cant believe I only get about 12 peanut butter cookies for $3.50 now. However, when I open a box of those cookies its hard for me to put down so in that aspect I guess it is better... lol.

I always buy those cookies from my freinds daughter, and go waaayy overboard. So this year I bought one box and then gave a 20 dollar donation instead, that way I get a little treat and they make more profit!!
