Ok, I am the mother of a sweet 15 yr old girl. She informed me that someone created a hateful and evil profile of her on myspace. I checked it out, and was sickened by what I saw and read. They took a picture of her and drew obscenties all over it. They wrote unspeakable things about her. I have been awake since 5 this morning, just sick to my stomach.
My question is....do I have any recourse besides having myspace remove the profile? I am so mad and just physically sick about it.
Any of you techies have any ideas as to finding out who did this? Any help or ideas are appreciated.
Anyways, onto the issue. I don't know if contacting myspace will help you find out who set up the profile, but you can try. This is a cruel and horrible thing to do to your poor daughter. Man, high school girls can be evil creatures. Another thing to do is offer a reward of like $50 for information. Some high school kids will roll over on anyone for money!
What do you intend to do even if you find out who did it?
Well, I plan on pursuing it as far as it can go. I plan on contacting the school, the parents, etc. Nowadays, schools do not put up with cyberbullying at all. I know of another girl that was either suspended or expelled because she did something just like this to another girl. I would even contact the police if I thought it would work. Emotionally, I would like to beat the crap out of the little ****.
You are right, there is nothing meaner than a high school girl. I keep thinking of that poor little 13 yr old who committed suicide because something like this happened to her. Luckily, my daughter is taking it well, and is trying to blow it off.
If there's a chance it's someone from your daughter's school you can contact the school officials and express your concerns. If they're not much help, try your local police department and tell them you fear for your daughter's safety. They'll do what they can to find out whose behind this and could possibly face harrassment charges.
* pops in, realizes the title of the post is not The Elvis of MySpace....oops.
Definately go to the school, parents, etc. I'm glad that you're daughter's taking it relatively well.
Good luck. I know what it is like to have a child cyberbullied.
Thanks to all that have replied (with the exception of Bagga's unneeded comment).
I am going to contact the police and go from there. Any suggestions are still appreciated.
I meant no disrespect, I truly read the title wrong.
Please believe I wish wholeheartedly you find the little $hits and give them what they most assuredly deserve and then some.
I so truly despise cyber-terroist-brats and do wish you were not having to deal with them and that your post was about Elvis instead.
Thanks for the clarification, Bagga, I guess I am little keyed up because this is my child. I knew about having myspace delete the account, but I want the little **** to pay. I guess they will have to learn the hard way about what is appropriate and what is not. My daughter gets home from school at 2:30, I will discuss it in more detail (see if she has any idea who it is) and then call the law.
You have every right to be upset.
Let the law see the profile before you have myspace delete it. They should know the proper steps to take and when to take them.
Best to you and your daughter.
I hope you find these kids and I hope they learn a lesson about being bullies. I don't blame you for wanting to get these girls/boys who did this.
I've never been on myspace before. I went there today to look at their user agreement. There is some pretty strong wording about not using the site for harassment. I'd definitely make copies of everything from the site that defamed your daughter. I'd contact the police. Then I'd contact Myspace and demand the site be taken down and the users permanently barred from Myspace.
Yes, I know most of them will be able to get back on, but you can make it inconvenient for them.
Update-when daughter came home we called the police. They came out, looked at the profile and are going to investigate. They told me it can take up to 2 weeks, and NOT to remove the profile (until they are finished with investigation) then, they will figure out the applicable charge, contact myspace with a subpoena to provide the IP address and hopefully nail the little ****.
Thanks to all for your suggestions and support. Now I am afraid that the person will delete the profile before the police get to investigate. Wish me luck!
make sure to let your daughter know how important it is that she TELLS NO ONE that it's being investigated. the bitches who did this could be anyone... even her so called 'best friend' The last thing you want is for the ass wipe who did this, is to erase it because she/he found out about the police investigating it....
G-luck again to your daughter and you
EXACTLY, Moody. Strange, I used almost the same wording...you just never know. And I reminded her of that.
As cd and I suggested, make print screens of the of the page (photos, everything and save it to your computer that way the police have a reference point if the kids take the site down.
