I had some bagged salad today and as I was eating I looked down into my bowl and noticed a dead fruit fly on one of the lettuce leaves. Ick! Very unappetizing.![]()
Aw man. I found a dead slug in a bag of peas once. I'm not squeamish, but it wasn't nice!
one time i found an earwig in a slushie, yuck!
extra protin ![]()
Helluva way to get more protein. ![]()
Ew!! I was at Panera once (this was in 2006) and found a dead fruit fly on my tomato on my Mediterranean veggie sandwich!! I was so grossed out I did not get tomatoes on stuff at that Panera for like a year after that!!!
I have found everything from slugs to lady bugs in my salads - and of course they JUST HAD TO BE ALIVE! One time when there was a lady bug in my tub of spinach... it flew out and lived in my apartment for at least a week... until I killed it finally! Whoops. Oh and one time... I got a salad from the school "grab and go" and well yea, second bite... and I looked at my fork (THANK GOODNESS) and it was FURRY!!!!!!!!!!!!! FURRY!!!!! Talk about disgusting college food! ha ha ha!
Moving to Kuala Lumpur, I have realised that the only cabbages I can buy here are the ones cut in half, not the whole ones. The whole ones always have a pile (and I'm talking 5-10) live, wriggly earthworms in them, whereas the cut ones seem to be too dry for them to live in. I scream every time! Especially when I cut them in half by accident.... beyond gross!
Thanks....You all cured my urge to snack...on anything!
yummy, high in protein =D
jk
well its ok i mean, you wont die or anything :L:L:L
Vietnam, Thailand, and most of the provinces in the Aseatic countries frequently eat fried bugs, fish eyes, and more! Honestly...they're not bad. In June me and my kids are traveling to Peru...grubs are definitely on our menue, probably some other little critters, too.
We live in the woods in a very old little house am I am constantly battling with "meal moths", their little grubs chew through your packages of grains/flours/cereals/anything and eat it and make little cocoons and then turn into moths who start it all over again!!
The other day my boyfriend had a bowl of cereal that had been open for a couple weeks and like 5 bites in he found a little grub floating in his milk.
I really don't like to think about how many of those little bastards we have eaten so far. Not to mention their EGGS-which I am sure we have eaten many time without knowing it.
Gross.
Fried crickets are actually ok, I ate some in Thailand. Boiled moth cocoons in China... not so good. Spiders in Singapore... ok. Raw goat testicles on a kebab in Beijing... I refused to try that one!

if you put ALL of your stored products into glass jars or metal (coffee) cans with tight-fitting lids, and wipe down/vacuum all of all your pantry shelves, over time the problem will resolve. diligence is key though, as what you need to do is starve them out. also, if you have room in your freezer, you can store crackers, cookies, cereal etc in there, to protect them from infestation.
EVERYTHING they could infest needs to be taken away from them (including rice, seeds, dry soup mix, spices, pasta, flour)...and don't think that even an unopened product is safe, as the larva have teeth and can chew through the inner plastic bag of cereal. they will even hide and breed in the end flaps of the box.
..and that is your pest control lesson for the day
^exactly right. We always had issues of little plack buggs getting into our flour so we always keep that in the fridge or freezer. Other than the flower I never noticed it in any other food. my dry rice seems to keep good I never find bugs in it even after weeks. Cereal also Never find anything in it. maybe we just keep our shelves clean enough to avoid the problem.
I have moved most things to mason jars and keep a lot in the freezer (flours and nuts). I am new to this area (never had the little buggers in Colorado) and it's a learning process.
I worry that even when I do get rid of them our house has so many cracks and crevices that they will just come back!
We even had them get into dog treats that were in a big airtight (or so we though) nice tupperware tub. I need more places to put stuff, mason jars only hold so much, I'll have to try the coffee cans as well. I do a lot of cooking and like to have a lot of grains and such on hand, it's a real bummer.
Moral of the story: Florida has about as many bugs as it has sunshine. They should rename the state.
i bought a bunch of glass jars from ikea, the kind with the plastic seal and the metal lock tight thingy....sorry, i can't really describe them but i put everything in there. although be careful, i once grabbed salt thinking it was sugar (it's in a much smaller container, i just was very tired at the time) and my 4 year old still talks about my salty pancakes. he ate them though!!! hahaha, enough syrup will help anything!!!

Wow, wish I had read this earlier today when I went to Panera and got the Med. veggie sandwich - ack! I know this is three years later, and most likely a different Panera - but it will make me question!
I remember when I was small I found larva of some insect in my tiny box of raisins (have had a thing against boxed raisins since). And I usually find hair in stuff - like pre-packaged salad. It's gross. :(
I'll have to look for some of those jars cheap, they would be perfect! ( I actually know what you are talking about!)
My mom got a breakfast burrito from McDonald's a couple years ago and half way thru she noticed there was half a cockroach in the center. I would have died!
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
