Has anyone been maintaining without excercise? Is it possible? I know ppl that are a normal body weight who do not excercise but keep their weight normal (but they have never had to loose weight either).
So is it possible to maintain without excercise?

I'm sure it is. Your weight is essentially the balance between your calorie intake and your activity level over time, right?
But is it practical?
Depends on what you call exercise maybe. My father-in-law is a scrawny 140 lbs at age 80 and has been that size his entire life without any exercise (at least not in the traditional sense that you and I think of it.) But he leads a very active lifestyle. Even at his current age he runs around the neighborhood cutting lawns.
Me, on the other hand, I have a desk job and even though I eat a healthy nutrient dense vegan diet I have to work out vigorously for an hour a day just to maintain. Yea it's a pain, but we know that regular exercise is linked to so many health benefits (including weight maintenance) that I don't really mind too much.

it is totally possible...but i find when i get lazy with exercise i get lazy in all other aspects of my life....exercising is what gets me motivated to move through all my days' other activities and keeps me wanting to eat healthy.
I agree with everyone else, i think it is possible to maintain a certain weight w/eating healthy and no excercise but i could not do this b/c i love seeing my body muscular, toned, and hard. which i am sure would not happen with eating healthy, low calories only.
Sometimes i dont want to go to gym and it is really tough to do it hard at 4x per week but i love what it does for my body. i loved being muscular, cut, and toned. this feeling alone is very addicting to me. especially i was overweight for a long time.

I'm nearly positive it is, but why would you want to? Excercise is at least as correlated with being healthy as being of a healthy weight. Yeah, it's a pain in the ass to go to the gym sometimes, but it's worth it.
It seems like there's some people out there who need incredibly large amounts of excercise, often paired with miniscule calorie allowances to maintain. I think that tends to only happen if you're a) seriously hormonally unlucky b) have a body that adjusted to years of being seriously overweight and now gravitates to that or c) are trying to maintain below your "set point". If any of these apply to you, working out heavily may be required to maintain. But for most people, it's just a big help.
Another point - I find it MUCH easier to motivate myself for excerise and enjoy getting into better and better shape when I don't think of it as burning off last night's dinner or giving myself extra calories to eat that day.
