To get rid of the fat - Lots and lots of cardio
To build those ab muscles - sit-ups, reverse curls, crunches, planks etc etc
Theres no quick solution to getting a decent abdomen, just takes lots of hard work and peseverence.
Check this site out: http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html
Has lots of ideas for target areas, using both gym machines and pylometrics.
Keep on truckin'!!

Hi,
these are two fun activities that I do to keep my abs tone and in shape.
Jump rope: you have no choice but to hold them in when your jumping and what a cardio workout! Whew
Hula Hoop: I discover that I could still do this at a fun Hula Hoop contest about 4 years ago, and I incorporate this into my exercising. I'll hula hoop for about 5 minutes straight and feel the burn.

any exercise you do will work your ENTIRE abdominal wall. If you want to see your abs cardio and a goo diet is all you can do!
I do normal cruches for my upper abs, and then for my lower, I lie on my back with my hands under my butt and my legs stretched out in front of me.
Then, I raise my legs (together at once) up to a 45 degree angle and then back down ALMOST to the floor but not touching it. Repeat until you cry.

but ps none of these exercises willl burn fat! only cardio/cutting cals does that...these just build up the muscle underneath!
Cardio and diet is it, baby. You also have to focus on losing body fat. Running is great for it.
ABS are made in the kitchen. You cannot target fat loss in any particular order. Usually the body loses weight in your face first, then on to other places, often your waistline is last to go. Once the fat is gone decline crunches will work your upper abs and leg raises will work your lower abs. However, to get your six pack to come out you will need to apply weights to whatever you do.
I agree with the hoola hoop. You can get weighted ones online, which believe it or not are easier than just doing the ones we used as kids. I think they range from 2-10 lbs. I used to do it twice a day for 10 minutes (3lbs hoop) and I really noticed the difference.
i've had great luck with pilates dvds from gaiam. i picked a couple up from barnes and noble and you can really feel it working your whole core - upper and lower abs and sides. really hard work if you are getting the form right but also low impact.
The Callanetics tummy exercises are MAGICAL. My tummy has pulled
in amazingly these last 2 weeks. Very deep exercises.
Better to do the whole routine, though. It all compliments each
exercise and muscle. Good Luck. Z
whats the Callanetics tummy exercises?? is there a website or link you can direct us to?
thanksa :)

YOGA BOOTY BALLET. I know...info-mercial stuff sounds like a huge crock. BUT I have had HUGE success with this program, especially the ab exercises. I can litterally see a flatter stomach in just 2 or three days. Their abs exercises also work the Kegel muscles which is great if your pregnant or have recently had a baby. And it's fun.
wow! those ab exercises seem promising!
any links where we can learn more about them? :D
thanks!

Sorry, guys - I don't know of a link or anything online that can teach
you the Callanetics ones. Try a video store? Rental, Amazon
or Ebay. The DVDs are getting easier to come by. They can
take time to 'learn' but the whole routine is magical. In fact
it's time to go do them now! See ya in an hour.......P-)
Those of you who have tried the Hoola Hoop...
I have a weighted one and I use it very rarely. Do you have a "routine" where you've seen results? Do you think a few times a week will do?

Try hanging from a chin up bar (or anything you can hang off really) and pulling your knees up. Its supposed to work on your lower abdominals and is fairly easy to do, if you can hold on.
