Excerise and Nausea what to do?
Okay, I need some guidance. I was at the gym today with my trainer. Long story short , first session and did not eat before I went. He instructed me that I should eat before I work out. But eat what? I don't want to get sick. The nausea was so bad I had to stop and drink gatorade. Granted I felt better but I didn't want to quit. What can I do so this won't happen again and what can I eat before I go so I can make it through he work out. Thanks
Try oatmeal or a banna about an hour before you workout. This will give you substance in your body and will also give you energy through your workout!
"Also bannas taste the same going down as they do coming up ;)"
I'd try to have something a little more substantial than a banana. I work out with a trainer as well and had the same problem as you when I first started. Now I try to eat some kind of 'stick with you' food about 1.5 - 2hrs before I workout with him. I try to have a mini-meal almost, I'll do a tuna fish sandwich or maybe pasta, things like that. My body needs to be fairly full for me to be able to push through my workouts with my trainer because he's really hard on me. Don't eat a lot right before a workout or else you will feel like puking, lol. You will come to find what your body needs before pushing it hard, try eating something like a big bowl of oatmeal or a sandwich or something and see how you feel and go from there. Make sure you are getting enough protein if you are weight lifting!
Thank you both for your suggestions I sure will be using them. I have a session tomorrow and I have to be able to make it.... Thanks again.
I always eat a granola bar before any workout. It is easy and I can eat it on the way to the gym. Just make sure it is one with at leat 5g of protein. And make sure you are hydrated!
Thank you, Amanda_z I just read your response. I did go to the gym today and I ate the oatmeal and 1/2 bannana. I feel GREAT...... I love it no sick feeling and I made it through my trainers workout. The only thing now I am thinking about is if I want to keep him it is going to cost me some money.
It all depends on what your goals are. If you are content to watch your calories and do some cardio on the treadmill, you don't necessarily need a trainer. But if you are looking to lift weights and really get in shape, I'd say they are well worth it. I have a trainer and there in no way in the world I would have the muscle I do or be as fit as I am without him. He pushes me harder than I thought my body could go and I've survived and benefitted from it. It's definitely a chunk of money but when it comes to my health, it's a small price to pay. You can always try him out for a few months, see how you look/feel, and either use the knowledge he/she has given you to keep up your workouts without him/her, or if you find that the trainer is really benefitting you and you want to keep going you can re-sign. You can always do it off and on too. I have found that I don't push myself hard enough without him and he's taught me some excellent workout routines to do on my own. Also, when it comes to lifting weights, my form is better than it would be if I went at it alone. That's always really important, to make sure you are lifting weights properly (if that is something you are interested in).
Good luck!
