How much excersise is too much?
Can you workout too much? I broke my hip last year and have just recently gotten back into running, after much strength training for my legs now I am afraid to stop the cross training of my legs, and I am afraid i might overtrain, I'm just very afraid if i stop the cross training I will lose that muscle strenght and hurt myself again.
Can you be more specific?
Cross training? X's week? Height? Weight?
What exactly do you do - exercise wise - during the week. Sorry I can't help but you need to be more detailed in your question.
Thnx!
it really depends on a few factors:
injuries, state of mind (exercise disorder), proper nutrition...
injuries are a pretty big deal...i'm a marathon runner myself so i feel your pain! i'm pretty young and have already had my share of injuries - knee, pulled muscles etc....my best advice - the first sign of any injury or pain STOP and rest until your okay again. last year i had a knee injury and i probably could have rested it for 2 weeks and it would have been fine....instead i overexerted myself and had to wait 3 months before i could run again! as long as your workouts don't have any pain i wouldn't worry about overtraining.
I'm sorry i just recently checked my replys, so thank u for responding. I work out four days a week and i generally do 2 hours on those days i start with cardio it is actually a biggest loser DVD. That is broke into 3 parts 20 minutes, 10 and 10. Then i move onto a biggest loser boot camp also three parts but i usually only do 2 , then i move onto power yoga also 3 parts, i usually also do 2 parts and vary which parts. Also the boot camp workout i should mention is mostly all squats and lunges with some cardio, then i run 3 miles. On the off days if a can fit it in i will do some runnning or walking. Mostly i would like to know if this is to much i really would like to back off some, because i am afraid of burnout, but I'm afraid of backing off too much, and gaining weight. Any help would be appreciated.
Definitely listen to Fitnessgirl. She is a fantastic trainer who is very knowledgable. :)
Now in my opinion, four days per week isn't too much at all. However, I think you may be working out too long @ two hours a session. You might be better off working out six days a week @ 45-60 minutes a session. It is all about what you can handle though. Regardless of what you decide to do, you should take at least one day per week where you don't do any exercise at all.
A popular workout plan is to strength train three days per week and do some form of cardio on the other three taking every Sunday off.
You broke your hip? Wow... how did that happen?
To answer your question, maybe you should see a therapist and let him/her help you out. Tell you what exactly to do, how far to push and how much of it to do as well.
Just be careful though.
I actually broke my hip pushing myself to much, and i did not know i have osteopenia, early osteoperosis. And strangely enough they tell me excersise is the best thing for this. So that is where i get in trouble because i push myself so much I'm always afraid if i let off the excersise i will gain weight. I mean i have never been fat but you know the older you get the harder it is to keep off, plus i have a huge appetite. For the most part i eat healthy, but i eat alot. Thanks u guys for the advice.
