Does excessive sleep affect diet?
I am 25, 5'5" and 143 lbs. While my BMI is "healthy," I am unhappy with myself. I would like to get back to 130 -- a weight I attained after losing 30 lbs (2005-2006), and maintained until I got married and started my Master's program. I am back on the same diet plan as before, but seem to find lots of "exceptions" (dinner with family, spending time with friends, etc.), but I do work out daily. My main concern is that I am getting a LOT of sleep -- for example, I will go to bed between 10pm and 12am, but CANNOT get up at 10am even if there is an alarm set. I normally wake up around noon. While I think there may be a bigger concern here (which I am working on with a health care professional), I was wondering if sleeping excessively reduces the number of calories burned daily. Is there a chance that I am not burning the 1200 calories that I take in daily, even considering my daily work outs (about 350 calories)? In general, how does sleep interact with weight loss?
Good question, I think if the body naturally burns 2000 calories daily. (Burn meter) and you are not starving when you get up in the afternoon. You are going to be fine, that is how we are loosing the weight we want to loose. Check your burn meter. Maybe you need to go to sleep early when you start your career.
Your amount of sleep does effect how many calories you burn. I don't know the exact ratio off the top of my head but here is some info. I found:
