excited to be vegan!

Quote  |  Reply
i have agreed with veganism for a long time, but was unwilling to give up my love for cooking and baking so many non-vegan foods. it felt like i was losing a crucial part of living and culture, and traditions so important to my family. but i've had a revelation, and i am very excited about it! in the past week of being vegan, i have not felt limited at all and i am really enjoying eating new foods. hell, i even had sorbet and chocolate, i feel far from deprived!

i have also discovered many great vegan/organic/fair trade/local places in my neighborhood that i never noticed before, and i am really looking forward to their avocado tempeh sandwich on fresh baked bread and baked goods made with local maple syrup.....

just wanted to say hello to the vegans out there and let you know im glad to join you!

Hi thea8 what a wonderful post!  It always makes me laugh when meat eaters ask "so what do you eat??" cos as you've just said there is so much new stuff to try and enjoy!

Absolutely!!!!

Hiya bee_roach - my little happy buddy!!!!Laughing

If you love baking, there's an amazing cookbook called "Sinfully Vegan" with crazy desserts.  They're definitely not for everyday eating, but they are amazingly good.  Have fun!

yay for vegans!

ive been vegan for years. so why am i overweight

hm

i try to eat well

maybe i just suck

love to you al, vegans or otherwise!

Hi!

I just went from vegetarian to vegan about a month ago, and I am loving it too! There are so many foods I didn't even know existed!

Also, just wanted to brag for a sec, b/c I got a copy of Veganomicon yesterday and it's AWESOME! Heeee!! Yay for ME! Haha  Smile

Hope everyone's having a lovely day!!!

This is a special note to Rafaella who asked why she was overweight, but a vegan.  Please pick up a copy of the book Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrmann.  I'm a 2 month-long (so far) vegetarian, no dairy or eggs though unless trace amounts are in my food, and his book talks specifically about vegetarians/vegans who eat too much processed food and are above their ideal weight.  His book is about the volume of food and how much more you can eat, if it's from fresh fruit and vegetables and some cooked vegetables, along with some unrefined carbs such as whole grains, beans, legumes.  He has several eating plans in the back of the book that I think you'll find helpful and also help you re-align your eating habits so you can lose the extra weight.

Best of luck.

Hi veganjada - heard lots about Veganomicon - all positive so I'll get hold of a copy!

Rafaella - hiya - used to hear the line about "no such thing as an overweight vegetarian" let alone vegans but its not true.  You don't suck {hugs} - like Angela said its just about changing eating habits and portion control (you could be like me - just love eating all that yummy vegan food!!) Laughing

Anyway - as Rafaella said love to all!!

i know a lot of vegans who are overwieght for some reason, in fact a lot of them are. i also know some very fit vegans not overweight at all. being vegan is just like any other way of eating, there are good foods and bad foods. its almost jsut as easy to be unhealthy while vegan, if you ate lots of processed foods and sweets when you werent vegan, chances are youll do the same when you are. i was wondering about this too, because i didnt want to gain weight like some of the people i know.

i tihnk some of it has to do with psycology, because you may feel like you are depriving yourself of so many things that you should be able to eat so many other things. of course, this isnt true, because calorie and fat wise, a vegan piece of cake or a cookie is the same as a regular one, its just not evil! i tihnk the trick is to understand that a vegan diet is the way of the future, not for weightloss, but for health and sustainability, and it should be treated as any other way of eating in terms of weightloss and healthiness.

i think the way that vegans are associated with being thin is because food is not often available for them when it is available for others, so if they are not responsible for themselves or dont know how to nourish themselves, then they would naturally lose weight.

my two cents are in about over weight vegans!

oooh - I'll have to try the cassoulet!  I've got Vegan with a Vengeance and I agree that's good too!

I've read that "Vegan Cupcakes rule the world" is also good but given we are talking about overweight vegans and that I am currently one - I had better not!!Laughing
