exercise with a bad foot?
I have a foot problem that is unfortunately turning into a knee and hip problem as well, and no medical to fix anything...so, my question is: besides swimming and yoga, what exercise/activities can I do that have very little impact? I'm sorta new to exercise and I don't really know what my options are. Thanks in advance!

Weight lifting is very low impact (on the feet) lol
Skating/Rollerblading
Cycling (Or it's more intense brother activity: spinning)
Rowing (On a machine or a row boat)

Do you have access to a gym? Water aerobics are great if you have any problems with weight bearing activities. I know it's similar to swimming, but then again it's quite different. The elliptical machine is also designed to be very low impact, although it is a weight bearing exercise.
But, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to see if there are any free clinics in your area. You don't want this to become a problem that you absolutely must get fixed, because then it will be infinitely more expensive than it would be to have it checked out now.

What exactly is wrong with your foot (and knee, and hip)?
I've had a bad foot/ankle for several weeks now. I have been able to start riding the stationary bike and use the rowing machine - plus weights...and I can swim. What did you do to your foot?
I'd say the elliptical is the best for no impact workouts.
I was blessed with a bunion the size of a mountain. I can hardly bend my toe joint on my right foot and I walk differently now to accommodate for the pain...which has made my knee and hip both start to hurt. Surgery for my foot is one of the most painful and time consuming surgeries (my grandma had to have one, so this is what she says) and I don't have the money/time/insurance to be out of school or work for very long. So I'm forced to wear flat, wide, supportive shoes (oh so attractive) most of the time. And I'll never be able to run while I've got it...but I refuse to let it hinder my weight loss progress. Especially since I think that if I can lose the weight and my poor foot won't be forced to carry around this extra 30+ lbs. then maybe it won't hurt so much.
I tried the elliptical yesterday and my foot went numb...I'm assuming that isn't normal. I might still use it, but it's not a very comfortable experience.
I've been doing yoga and I'm going to start swimming, but I like variety. Thanks for your suggestions...I'm going to try the bike next(I might see I've I can freecycle a real bike as well :D). Are there other outdoor activities you can think of?

aimee - the numb feet on the elliptical is very common - search this forum for many threads about this issue. You are not alone.
Aimee, I too suffer from severe bunions. Had surgery 25 years ago on both. Now one is worn out again. Big toe pain and swelling and finally just froze up. I learned to walk on side of foot or on heel. But finally just had surg on right foot on June 1, 2007. They broke main bone to big toe and realigned and inserted screws and did a full joint implant. Also removed 3 large bone spurs and two cysts. I'm better every day. I too struggl with weight. Lost 75#s since 1999 but gained some back. Always struggle with the last 10#s. I have done a ton of runs in the last 7 years but my love is inline skating. Hope to get back in my skates in the next month or two. My advise. Have it done if you can. and just keep on keeping on...
