Which exercise is better?
I've been doing the Bodies in Motion with Gilad and also Total Body Sculpt with Gilad; each show is 30 minutes, including commercials, but they really work me. My friend is walking about 3 miles daily. I used to walk before it got so hot, then I switched to the tv shows to get my exercise. Also, I injured my ankle 3 years ago and sometimes it still flares up.
Does it really matter which exercise one is doing? I've heard 10,000 steps a day...I don't know how to calculate that when I'm doing the Gilad, but I know it IS beneficial. I know to switch it up every so often, but I'm just wondering if one is better than the other. Thanks!
The best exercise is the one that you will do and continue to do. Especially for beginners. When you are first starting to exercise you will see improvements from almost any kind of increased movement. As you get more fit, then other options may become better, but for now it sounds like you are doing what is working for you, so keep it up ![]()
I absolutely agree with larsa000. You are enjoying your exercising. That puts you ahead of the game. Maybe down the road you will change to something else or add something else, but that is in the future. Absolutely do what you are enjoying exercising-wise. Great job and keep it up!
I wonder how many people quit exercising because they hated what they were doing for exercise?
I did! ![]()
A couple of years ago I was doing the "Escape Your Shape" program with two of my daughters, who also needed to lose some weight; they both lost over 60 lbs apiece, are maintaining their ideal weights now & are very active.
I, on the other hand, lost 42 lbs, which was great, but then I hit a brick wall in my progress. First, I fell down some stairs & severely sprained my R knee & ankle. Then, after that took four months to completely heal, I broke my R leg falling on the ice. Talk about having an excuse to quit working out, eh?
Not a good idea, but unavoidable...and besides, just before all this happened, I was telling them that I wanted to try something different because I had been on a plateau for weeks ~ and my arthritis was killing me every time I did the workout! Plus, I was not really careful about what I was eating @ the time, just watching late-night snacks, etc.
So, now here I am...using CC to count every morsel, every sip ~ and using my treadmill EVERY day (except Sundays & today, my birthday
), plus other miscellaneous walking whenever I get the chance. I love this site; I have lost 21 lbs so far, with 74 to go...but I can literally feel the inches melting off of me as I type, lol. I agree with you, pilgrimdude & larsa000 ~ whatever exercise you enjoy is what you will continue to do, whatever works for your particular needs, either losing, gaining or maintaining. I have found my own needs met using the program that I use & I know that I can continue indefinitely ~ hopefully, for life.
I do plan to purchase a good pedometer as I would like to begin logging the recommended 10,000 steps per day. Once I lose all this extra weight, I will feel much better about myself...and I will most likely be a promoter of walking & calorie counting to everyone I meet, lol!
The exercise you will do is the better one!
Both are beneficial, and I wouldn't worry about the step equivelant for your videos. I think it would be awesome if you could continue with your videos and walk! They are different types/intensitites of exercise so mixing it up would benefit your body. Since it is cooling down you may want to go walking once or twice a week with your friend, and pick up your video on a day you feel like staying home!
Hi there my opinion is as similar as the others any exercise is great now regarding your ankle well i see it all the time with my patients and the reason it flares up is because you are working it which is good because its the main joint that supports your body so after a good exercise or those specific ones that make it flare up follow RICE= rest, ice, elevate, and compress.

Yeah, I like the All Star Workouts with Ellen Barrett and Jennifer Galardi on FitTV ... they are the only ones I've tried ... so far!

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
