I am always cold now. I don't know why but I think it may be my furnace has kicked up. Iws eating to little calories prior to joining (800 average daily) now I am up to 1500-1600 with a lot of exercise. I notice I get very cold after exercising. any suggestions about what this may be about. The coldness started the same time I started tracing my calories. any thought on detoxing from sugar (only in coffee but.....3 tlbs daily) :-(

I find that I too am cold all the time. I've went from 324 pounds in 2003 to 185 pounds now in feb. 2006
Maybe do too loss of body weight.
How did you only eat 800 calories, God I'd die!
I eat no more than 2000 cal. a day except on the holiday when I allow myself to indulge a little.

Your losing that "fat" that helped you stay warm. That is what I think. I get cold too but I think like this. Its like a bears winter coat. He sheds it in the summer because he needs to be cooler. We are shedding pounds that contain fat and the fat helped us stay warmer. Does that make sense. I may be wrong but that is how I look at it. I think as your body adjust to the weight loss you will not be as chilly. huggers to the polar bears...
Lurleen, I think that is exactly right. I find that most days I'm wearing two sweaters in the house now (it is still pretty cold here in Michigan) and I think that's due to loss of some of my "insulation."
But something else has happened, too. I have had long stretches of night time hot feet, where the soles of my feet feel like they're on fire. I've tried everything for that, even keeping a tub of water next to the bed to dip them in. But since Jan 14 when I started logging on this website and improving my nutrition, that has completely gone away. I'm thinking it could be the lower blood sugar from my healthier diet!

oh,the 800 cals...well I ate quick foods like celery and such...some days, especiallywhen I wa ingraduate school, i would only eat one time a day but it was very high in fat ewwwww. I ws frustrated by my weight ain and spoke to my MD. He told me "knock it off and eat 6 times a day" I was apaled but then he gave me a sample diet and this web site. I found that I couldn't eat the total calories at first, sometimes tilll but am now averiging 1300-1500. Last evening 1800 due to leaving my lunch on the sideboard and eating bad stuff like totsi rolls. However, I am a beleiver in better nutrition. I feel better, sleep better and my skin looks better....also my umph tango drive is better....also for you lasses out there, my hot flashes and burning feet have gone away. But I am cold so....thanks for the words of encouragement.

As well as lurleen's advice your metabolism is also changing, as your metabolism picks up it affects your circulation and you're colder when your not pumping your heart rate (exercising).... if you're having the hot feet thing..... try massaging them before you go to bed, to get the circulation going down there..... if it's really intense it may be worth seeing a registered massage therapist..... sounds like you may have a bit of a circulatory problem in the feet when you sleep.... you can also try putting a pillow under your feet so that the blood is encouraged to run away from the feet (may help)
supersized,
thanks for the advice. I am only 38 but my MD says I have all the classic signs of the dredded m word. My mum and grannie were done at 40...I only get hot feet when I am having a hot flash...umph

Yes could definately be the "m"..... eek!.... there's some good herbals on the market to help... I think my mom took primrose oil through a lot of it, I know she did the herbal route and I barely even noticed when she went through it.
M is great No Aunt Red> the down side is the metabolism is down. I'd rather spike my meatabolism than deal with Aunt Red. She is a pain in the @$$!
Sometimes being cold is one of the signs of of your body starting to go into "starvation" mode. As soon as I bumped my calories up I wasn't cold any more.
I read in the library on this site about being cold and calorie intake as related to starvation mode. read it. it is very interesting.
to the finish line.

I get cold when I drink a lot of water, which I do when I'm trying to be healthy & lose weight.
hI ALL,
Thanks for all the feedback...I was worried about starvation mode so I contacted my MD. He looked over my diet logs and th9ought they were mostly ok....wants a wee bit more protein. I am drinking a lot of water so that might be it. He also informde me that I am detoxing from a lot of nasty things ( i went organic as well). yesterday I was so busy in the paractice that I drank herbal tea rather than swater and was not as cold. who knows.....I also fell off the wagon in a big way...had fast food...but I am back on today. I haven't worked out in 4 days as well, feeling guilty but there is no time right now. I am going tonight if the blizzard doesn't hit they are predicting......Gip

i'm so glad someone thought to bring this up. ever since i dropped about 50 pounds like 4 years ago, i'm ALWAYS cold. i used to LOVE winter time, but now i'm already craving the warm weather (and we have LAME winters here in AusTex!). even when it's like 65 out but there's breeze, i get chilled. and the blazing heat in the summer doesn't feel so bad anymore. weird, it's kind of annoying, but oh well. i guess that's the price you gotta pay ;).
Me too (cold all the time). Before my weight loss - I stayed hot and couldn't stand a summer without a/c. Now, I wear cuddles under my clothes (lady-long-johns), two pairs of socks and more sweaters and sweatshirts around the house. I can hardly wait for the summer months!!!
I am having similar side effects to loosing weight too I guess. My hands and feet have been absolutely freezing cold since I started loosing weight. I have always been somewhat of a cold-natured person, but now its way worse. My feet are like small ice boxes.

yeah, my hands and feet are always cold. i always thought poor circulation caused that. but considering that i work out like 4-5 hours a week, i don't see how that's possible. esp. when i'm cold DURING the workout (beginning anyway).
hey, i think that you probably don't have enough fat on your body. fat is what keeps you warm. although you don't have to be like morbidly obese or anything, you need some fat on your body--like 20%, i think (for a girl). and, no offense, but eating 800 calories a day sounds like really drastic dieting. it's terribly unhealthy for you, especially if you're exercising a lot. remember, you only need to exercise 3-5 times a week. you don't need to exercise like crazy all the time. i think that you should probably try gaining some weight. if your body doesn't have enough fat to keep itself warm. the amount of fat needed differs per person. or you could have big bones, weigh a lot, but still not be fat. don't let those numbers on the scale fool you--listen to your body. it's telling you that it's unhealthy for you to lose anymore weight and maybe you need to gain a little more. try that out. you might also want to see a nutritionist. they could probably explain best exactly what you're body is saying and what its individual needs are.
I have the opposite problem. I'm always too warm until the heat is low enough that everyone else is freezing. I've always been like that, except when I've been very sick.
i think it could be from all the reasons said a major one is the loss of fat, especially in winter like if you have lost through the summer anyway your body has already lost some stores from the weather and what your body needs aswell as then losing weight, maybe it hasnthad time to get its winter stores back up because of the continued weight loss, and also the circulation thing,if you are exercising its great for circulation but if yuor body hasnt been getting enough cals or weight or whatever health wise then the exercise is pumping things faster and m,aking your circulatary system work even harder so sometimes this can make the system worse and not better.if anyone has got blue fingernails or toenils or lips then that is even worse because lots of people go cold but if you thikn about it we only ever see blueness on people that are dead or close too it so that is telling you something is seriously wrong, that is what my doc tells me,hope its usueful.oh and she also said another importnat sign is when you cover up and stuff yet you still feel cold that means that its the how did she put it insides suffering too or something along those lines she speaks very fast and comes out with all these facts its hard to keep up*note to self take a notepad*
good look all of you and cuddle up in a nice nuvet with soft clean smelling sheets so that only your eyes are showing,of course to see the t.v,i find that helps,it also means my mum mistakes me for just an unmade bed so the dishwahser is once again past on to my brother.hahahahahahahhahaha.and that in itslef will give you a warmer feeling.

i am ALWAYS so cold. ive posted a few times about this problem. most people seem to think its metabolism problems. when people eat too little, their metabolism doesn't run as fast and starts to shut down. even though you may eat healthier now, your metabolism is probably going to need some time to repair and get back up to speed. exercise should help to increase this. also, if your vegan, your resting body temperature may be a little lower than normal. i assume that's why i'm always cold.
