How much exercise is enough when trying to gain?
I am a 5'10 41 year old male who has lost 154 lbs over the last year and a half by high intensity cardio.
I have cut the cardio and I never went below 2500 calories a day. Trying to eat 3K now with just weight lifting every day and my wife and I walk the dogs 1.5 miles morning and night. All but one day I ride the stationary bike 25 minutes.
Looking for people's opinion on what type exercise is acceptable if I am trying to put 20 lbs back on...any opinion counts! :):)
reduce cardio to just daily activities.
heavy lifting of weights, or any lifting, is cardio in a way since u get ur heart rate up.
can u figure out ur burn from lifting and eat that back, maybe double that to gain ofcourse in addition to eating ur regualr burn amount.
Keep on walking the dogs, completely stop using the stationary bike, and reduce weight lifting to every other day (in order to give you one day to allow your muscles to repair themselves by relaxing which in essence allows for them to grow).
But your case is a bit different from the general here seeing as you used to weight more before and are now trying to regain some of it. Unless there is a medical situation behind it, I would recomend simply trying it out and if you feel you are packing on weight faster than you wished, then yes add in the use of the bike. Give yourself a week or two period with this and you should see gains. (remember to use heavier weights and less repetitions).
Thanks I do upper body one day lower body the next along with the daily walks and the 20-25 minuts on the bike.
I will try cutting out the bike and see how quickly the weight comes back as well as what it does to my metabolism.......right now I eat 2500 to 3000 calories a day pretty clean foods....I am still always hungry.
Go to Vegas next Monday through Wednesday and I may have to enjoy a few cheat days!
