Hi all, Iam new to this site, few days. I love all the support. I have a question. I am 56 years old and have about 150 lbs to loose. previous knee surgeries, and bilateral plantar neuromas on both feet make exercising hard. When I get off work, every freakin body part hurts. Exercise? Now? You mean me? Someone suggested that I lose 50 lbs first. I want to get this wt. off.My daughter will be getting married in about 1 1/2 years. I need help!!!!!!!!! Please????

You may want to start off with walking, just 15-20 min per day, then work on the length of the walk and the pace of the walk as you go.

If you have access to a gym use low impact cardio machines like the ski machine or elliptical trainer, or recline bike.... as opposed to tread mills or steppers which may aggrivate your joints.

Glad to meet you karenie.
First of all check with your doctor he will be able to find someone to help set up a program.

they have excersizes you can do sitting down. Remember to start slow.
Well, you might want to consider more of a diet change than an exercise routine. Exercising like crazy but not changing your lifestyle may very well result in no weight loss. I would instead attempt to try to diet the weight off, through help from a nutritionist or through your own healthy eating. If you start losing from that alone, adding exercise will make the process even faster, and will also make you healthier.

I agree with the suggestion that someone gave you. Attempt to lose 50 lbs through changing your diet or lifestyle alone. At that point, you know that exercise will be effective. But if you just jump into exercise without truely examining your eating habits, you may see no difference no matter how much you push yourself.

Good luck.
Slow and steady wins the race...giggles...you will do it...you have one year and one half year you said to reach your goal .....I think the healthy way is one or two pounds a week ....figure it out...you may not be there in that amount of time but HAY you will be more healthy and feeling great in actually a month. Really because you will see those four to eight pounds gone...isnt that cool...I think so....huggers to you and your new inlaw to be
Hi! I'm new too. Do you have time to go to the Y and do water walking? It would take all the pressure off your poor knees and I hear it's great for burning calories. I'd like to try it myself.
I have read and heard that you don't have to do your aerobic exercise all at once. If 20 minutes is too much then break it down to 2 - 10 minute sessions or 4-5 minutes sessions. Has anyone else heard of this?
I am a firm believer in the Marie Windsor Pilates videos, they have different levels depending on what you can handle and walk you through everything, and she also shows modifications for every movement incase there are certain parts of you that can't do the 18yr old hard body moves, (i'm getting good at the modified version)
:) worth a try, I think they are like 10-20 dollars for the dvd. Good luck.
