Have not exercised for 5 days--how much of a set back is this?

Quote  |  Reply

I've had stomach issues and a head cold since Sunday, and I'm kind of bummed out because I was really getting into my almost daily exercise regime, and seeing and feeling the results.  After nearly a week off, am I back to square one fitness-wise?

Of course not. Don't worry about it. Just get well and start your exercise again when you feel up to it.

Yeah don't worry about it.  You may feel as though you've lost some ground when you first hit the gym again, but you will progress back to (and beyond) where you left off surprisingly quickly.

I'm in the same boat. I was camping out in the desert since Friday then came home Monday with the worst cold/flu ever. I can barely sit up, so forget about weights. I know it's silly, but I feel like if I watch long enough I can see myself slowly sagging.

Trust me...5 days is no biggee.  I had a mild relapse and didn't do anything for a whole month!!!  I guess maybe I was just worn out...but luckily I only gained back two lbs.  So, needless to say, I have started my normal routine again and hopefully those 2 lbs will go away quickly.  :)  Have a great day!!

Good to know.  Thanks everyone.  Hopefully this head cold will be history soon.  Mostly I kind of miss the working out.  Never thought I would say that, but it's true. Laughing

I managed to get pneumonia last week and it put me out of commission for several days as well.  If you are doing weights it may or may not make much difference I personally had to drop back down to a lighter weight in some routines and when I started back in cardio class I too had to drop it down a notch but I'm feeling much better so it won't be too big of a deal just don't push it when you first go back

I felt the same way the past two weeks, with College Final Exams closing in I have been goign crazy trying to get done my projects and papers, all while working fulltime and studying on my lunch time.... so I only got to the gym about 3 times in the past two weeks, and I swear I feel weaker from not being able to lift weights as much as I usually do lol

I try to take a week off every few months.  Personally, I find that my body needs it every once in a while.  And afterwards, I find that I go up in the weight that I can lift.

I've got a horrible cold/cough right now too. It really sucks. I haven't worked out for two days and already feel like a slacker. I'm supposed to do upper body with my trainer tomorrow. I really don't want to cancel. A may just tell him to go easy on me, lol!

Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
