what exercises to do in the winter?
I need to figure out a type of exercise i can do during the winter, as i cant cycle during wet weather as its unsafe.
Anyone got any ideas? I don't own any gym equipment...
Just a few ideas:
Do you have a staircase? You can walk / run up and down those.
You can buy work out videos.
Play Dance Dance Revolution.
Or join a gym.
I'm dreading winter myself. I've gotten into a great running routine and I'm not looking forward to putting it on hold. If I'm forced to, I'll probably kick into pilates mode. I had a lot of success with weight loss last year by doing pilates daily- I highly recommend it. I'm also toying with the idea of Tae Bo- if anyone could suggest a great DVD I would be very grateful.
I'm really going to miss running, though, and I don't want to lose the endurance I've built up. Does anyone have any winter running suggestions? I HATE treadmills, so please don't suggest that as an alternative. haha
Other then that I think, like the others have said, I am going to try pilates...
I also was thinking about going walking/jogging anyway, just going to bundle up....and in Syracuse NY I will REALLY have to bundle up!!
Sadly, the local council has just taken away the towns lesuire facilities (Fitness suite, swimming pool etc), so i have to go to another town to be able to go swimming and to the gym, which costs a fortune in bus fare.
thanks everyone.
I love spin class too! If you can find a gym or exercise facility that offers spinning, it's a great way to stay in shape over the winter. What is spinning, you ask? Here's from wikipedia:
"Indoor cycling is a form of high-intensity exercise that involves using a stationary exercise bicycle in a classroom setting.
A typical class involves a single instructor at the front of the class who leads the participants in a number of different types of cycling. The routines are designed to simulate terrain and situations encountered in actual bicycle rides, including hill climbs, sprints and interval training. Coasting downhill, obviously, is easiest to simulate. The instructor uses music and enthusiastic coaching to motivate the students to work harder. Most instructors will lead what is called an interval ride, this is where students will sprint, run, climb, and jump all in the same ride but there will not be definable pattern to the exercises."
Give it a go- it's fun.
