Exercising and eating right but GAINING weight! Anyone else have this problem?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey everyone! My goal was originally to lose 7 pounds over the course of 6 weeks.  These past two weeks, I have been exercising for 30 minutes, 5 days a week with Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred.  I've also been eating pretty healthy and have cut out sweets.  Imagine my surprise when I weighed myself today and I have actually GAINED 2.5 pounds from when I originally started.  My clothes still fit the same, so I know I have not lost inches either.  Does anyone else experience this?

I'm making sure to drink plenty of water, and I know my weight is attainable as these 7 pounds were weight I gained from May '08 - Dec '08.  I really want to lose it before summer time (and bathing suit season) so any thoughts you have would be helpful. Thanks!

from some of the research that i have read on here, you do gain some weight when you start doing strength because your building muscle and there is a small amount of time where you gain muscle weight but aren't losing the fat weight. it should start melting away soon. just don't get frustrated and keep doing what you are doing. you should get a lot of responses, and if not search the forum. this is a common question that is asked.

i'm in the same frustrating spot as you, except i have gained 12 pounds in about 6 months. i just started to add strength training (with the 30 DS, and pilates with and without the stability ball) so hopefully that will jump start my weight loss again.

it's normal to gain some weight when you first start a heavy exercise program. keep doing what you're doing and it will all balance out. you might want to stay away from the scales for a while, they're pointless anyways as you can tell (since your clothes still fit despite your "gain")!
