exercising+ammonia smell

Quote  |  Reply
Hey everyone,
So I am a 19 year old male who about a month ago started a routine of doing four miles on the elliptical five times a week...not to lose wieght or anything, but to move around more and make sure I maintain....I also do yoga twice a week....

However, every time that I go on the elliptical (and sometimes after doing an intenseive yoga session where i sweat more) I always smell ammonia for about five minutes. I looked this up online today and read some mixed things about what this could be...so I figrued I would ask here what this is and if I should be concerned and see a doctor....

also, my sweat doesn't smell like ammonia, I just have that smell in my nose for like 5 mins after my session....

any feedback would be nice...thanks in advance!

I heard eating an apple before working out stops the smell.

I'm not sure if it's true or not.

I askefd the same question a couple days ago.

I know what you are talking about!  When I work out very very hard I get the same smell in my nose.  The only other time besides working out that I got the smell was when I fell when I was younger and hit my head really hard.  I blacked out and smelled ammonia.  I really wonder what causes this while working out (especially since I can relate this to a terrible head injury as a child).
