Expecting #2

Quote  |  Reply

So I just realized I was pregnant a few weeks ago with #2.  My 1st baby is 8 months old.  I never lost all the baby weight... In fact I have 12 of the original 32 lbs left over.   This puts me at slightly overweight for my very petite stature.  How much do you think I should gain?

My doctor appointment isn't for a few more days but when I put my info into the cc for advise on how many calories to maintain it still says 1200.  That's what it said when I was trying to drop the weight.  I checked the "expecting / breastfeeing" box so I'm confused.  Shouldn't it add calories to my total to cover that?  Otherwise why is the box there?

I was eating 1400 / 1500 a day before I found out... Stay the same  for now or increase slightly?

you should definitely NOT drop more calories! that baby needs the calories to grow!

if you eat healthily, you probably will not gain any weight until your 2nd or third trimester, and then your gain should probably be slow...if you eat right, most of the weight you gain should be the baby.

eat as many salads as you can...and eat lots of fruit too. if you have a sweet tooth, keep bananas and grapes and apples in your house at all times. eat those instead of junk.

when i was pregnant, i LIVED on granny smith apples through out the morning sickness phase. after that i ate at least 1 salad a day for most of my pregnancy. i ate junk too...occasionally i'd have a huge baked potato w/ butter, sour cream, and broccoli and cheese...

i can't stress this enough: do not go by the amount of calories the counter says. it's ridiculous. if i go by what they tell me to have for more than like 2 days, my milk supply drops WAY down.

and start taking those nasty prenatal vitamins or at least take folic acid!

I've been staying on the prenatals & because we wanted to get pregnant again.  I honestly thought I would drop all the weight first though!

My doctor today said not to worry about it too much at this point but that she'll monitor it as we go.  I'm craving sweets like never before so the fruit is a great suggestion.  Funny how different pregnancies can be right from the start.  With the first one I craved Mac n Cheese & Coffee.  This time around I'm craving donuts & honey glazed carrots.  (I hate coffee only slightly more than donuts!  Stupid pasty things.)

Oh & it turns out I'm 8 weeks!!  Well 7 weeks & 6 days!  Good strong little heartbeat going on in there.  :)
