Extreme Hunger

Quote  |  Reply
I eat a good breakfast of 1 serving size bowl of oatmeal and 1/2 glass of orange juice. I bring a peice of fruit to work with me for a snack...By the time lunch rolls around I am so hungry that I am shaking. Yesterday I made such a mess at my house trying to make a tuna sandwich with my uncontrolable hands. Any suggestions as to keeping my hunger at bay so that I'm not STARVING by the time another meal rolls around.

maybe add a piece of toast to your breakfast. Dont starve yourself. drink plenty of water. Make sure you are getting enough in the morning. Maybe take something extra to snack on and use it if you need to before lunch.
Add something to your breakfast with some protein in it and a little more staying power like perhaps some yogurt or a little cheese or a bit of peanut butter on whole grain toast? Try to eat a little something every few hours. If you are shaking uncontrollably you need to make some kind of adjustment because what you are doing is definitely not working with your body's needs. It is natural to get a little hungry, but the shakes like that sound like perhaps your blood sugar is spiking then dropping like I've experienced with hypoglycemia.

Hope this helps!

How about a glass of milk with the oatmeal instead of orange juice? That would give you a protein boost. If I don't have a serving of some kind of protein for breakfast I get very hungry. Sometimes I have the white of a hardboiled egg along with whatever else I'm having. You could take a hard boiled egg for snack instead of fruit to get more protein.
I understand completely. I have to leave by 6am to get to work, so I usually only had a yogurt before leaving. I had a piece of fruit around 9 and by noon I was starved. I started eating a lean cuisine for breakfast. If you can handle not having a "normal" breakfast its a great way to fill up fast and still eat healthy. I also was told that the calories you eat in the morning are burned off all day so this is the time you can have a 300 cal meal.
Just a thought.
Good Luck!

you really need to add some protein to your breakfast. I have found some english muffins from Weight Watcher and another kind from Thomas that are light and both have good fiber and protein in them I use a quarter cup of Egg Beaters (they are actually pretty good) and a slice of low fat cheese to make a sandwich. they are all high in protein and it seem to last much longer than other things I have eaten and it's under 200 calories! Also you could eat some low fat yogurt with a quarter cup of Kashi Crunch cereal in it, that has good protein and fiber in it and it's only about 130 calories or so.

Good Luck!
You have to have a protein. 1tbsp of peanut butter will be good. Or have egg whites, toast and oj. Have a snack a couple hours later, a carb. Piece of fruit is fine. Drink water too. Cheese sticks are good too. Good luck.
Have you tried the Quaker Weight Control (loss) can't remember which oatmeal? They come in Cinnamon and Banana Bread, very yummy and lots of Fiber and Protien, should help keep the hunger pangs away :)

160 cal
10g fiber (6 g soluble 4 g dietary)
7g protien
Best thing that keeps the hunger at bay for me is the Quaker Weight Loss Oatmeal (either Banana Bread or Cinnamon), I throw in an extra tbsp of Benefiber for more fiber, and three hard boiled egg whites. That actually stuffs me, but the caloric impact is not that much, but you get some quality carbs to support your energy level, and it gives you much needed protein - about 12-14 grams in the three egg whites, plus I think around 5-7 grams of protein in the oat meal (I think, not looking at the box right now).

Wash it all down with about 16-24 ounces of water, and I'm fine till lunch time!

I had the same problem and here is how I've been tackling it:

I wake up at 6 am and have a bowl of sugar-free cereals with low-fat milk, to which I add some fruit and nuts for energy.

I start work at 7am and am not able to have lunch before 3 pm. During this time I have three pieces of fruit - nearly one every three hours, having the last one around 1.30 pm. For something more substantial than fruit, you could also try a hard-boiled egg with perhaps a thin slice of whole-grain bread (which has already been suggested above).

I also consume a lot of water and herbal tea.

Hope you find this plan helpful. Good luck.

I tend to get hypoglycemic if I just eat carbs by themselves. Then I get shaky, dizzy, irritable, sweaty and confused which isn't good. So I've learned to eat some protein with the carbohydrates. It does help a lot and keeps you feeling fuller longer.

Good luck. :)

A hard boiled egg works for me, if I don't eat enough calories for breakfast I just end up eating too much during the day.

hey monka111!
I get like that all too often. and it is so scary. I have made messes trying to get any food together to eat too. I thought I was the only one this happens to. noone i know goes through it.
I noticed when I was trying to follow the body for life eating pattern, that helped quite a bit. pick a protein and a carb for each meal and snack a 2 veggie servings per day. 6 "mini meals" per day. for snack, I usually went with low fat of fat free cottage cheese and mix it together with yogurt. ( I would empty half the yougurt into a bowl and cover to save for next time, then fill the other half of the yogurt cup with the cottage cheese)

Now that I am working in the bakery, I cant slip off and eat something most times cause it is so busy, so I found a miricle food. Eziekel Bread. I toast 2 pieces, and put a piece of this frittata thing i make (I can give you the reciepe if you want) and this holds me from 8:30 ish to 1:30.
Good luck! Iknow how bad it is!!!
