Extreme TOTM weight gain and loss.

Quote  |  Reply

I'm just wondering if anyone else gets water retention as bad as I do before my TOTM. As recently as the 8th of this month, I was down to 185 lbs. On Saturday night I weighed myself and I was up to 205! WHAT! How could I have gained  20lbs in a week!! I have since started my period and I'm back down to 190. Is this something normal or is my body SERIOUSLY out of wack.

Stats:

Age: 21

Height:6'1"

Current Weight:190

Wow, that seems like a lot to me. I've never had that much difference, maybe a couple of pounds. Have you talked to your doctor? Maybe there is someone else who has had this happen. It seems like a lot to me.

That seems like way too much to me too!  I can bank on usually a 3 lbs fluctuation during my period.  But 20 lbs is INSANE!  Did you eat an insane amount of salty foods or anything??

The week before I ate more "comfort foods" then usual. I really didn't count what I was eating last week because I was embarassed about it. It wasn't as bad as what I would eat before I started counting.

This is the first time I actually tracked my weight before and during my period because I just got my own scale and I've been tracking my weight loss by stepping on a scale whenever I found one. I decided to track my weight before and during my period this time because I usually feel very bloated before and during my period. However, I wasn't expecting THIS MUCH of a weight gain and loss. Does anyone else have any better information?

Hey there, i dont really have any explanation to why that is happening, but I want you to know your not alone and this past month I have felt Pre-Menstrual for like 2 weeks and gained like 8 pounds or so even with eating very healthy..its like my body is ready to start but its just waiting its been terrible feeling heavy and bloated that many days out of the month! I always go back down though after. If you take in all the sodium from your comfort foods, plus the TOM gain, its going to be quite high. Did you feel like you were retaining lots of water? Anyway if it happens again I would probably go get it checked out! Good luck! Sorry I am not much help!

Did you weigh yourself ONLY on your own scale at the same time of day wearing the same type of clothing each day?  If not that could be a big contributor to the weight discrepency.

I gain a good 5lbs of water retention during my TOTM.

the scale could be faulty? Did you weigh yourself in the morning before you ate or drank anything? Because that willl deff make your weight fluctuate.  Also if you eat a bunch of salty food, you will retain much more water which will show on the scales.

20 lbs seems like a lot to me, but I don't really have room to talk since I am normally 5-10lbs up a week or so before, and back to normal a few days after.

I have been weighing myself in the morning after I went to the bathroom and before I get dressed or eat. I have also been weighing myself at night just to see how much that effects the weight. I know I shouldn't be weighing myself that much but I want to see what my body does during my TOTM. I think I may keep this up next month as well. I'm going to keep a weight log book and weight myself every morning just to see what my weight does during the month.

The scale is not faulty. I have tested it and it is a new digital scale.

I just want to see if anyone else has experienced this kind of weight gain/loss around their TOTM.

Could my height be a factor in how much water I retain? Could the amount I gain be relative to everyone else because of how tall I am?
bump.
Please could someone help me find the answer to this? It is really bugging me.
I would gain 10-15lbs at that time. It sucks!! But lately it's not that high. It's now between 5-7 lbs., I don't know why. I don't know if it has to do with my weight loss or not.
Before I started drinking my "gallon of water a day" regime a few months ago, I would easily gain 8-15lbs of water. It was horrible--all of the bloating. And I looked like I was pregnant! Now I only gain about 4-6 lbs and it drops off as soon as my period ends. I also really have to watch my sodium intake during my TOM because my body wants to hold on to every ounce of water it can.
I go through times of drinking over a gallon a day and then times of not wanting to touch a bottle of water. I don't know what to do to maintain my level water intake. I'm really not sure how much sodium I take in either.
