extremely hungry after working out...

Quote  |  Reply

Don't know if this is the right place to post this, but lately i have been adding Jillian Michael's 30 Day shred DVD along with my running in the morning to increase my strength training so i can build more muscle to boost my metabolism. Today i did my normal 40 min run followed by level 3 of jillian michaels DVD.... all day i feel like i have been hungry non stop and shoveling food into my mouth! Is this normal and does the hunger ever adjust? I want to lose weight and i dont think this is going to be possible if i am hungry all the time!

Try to have something, mix of carbs and protein, right after you finish. Not much 200-300 calories. It usually helps. If I don't have my recovery drink, chocolate milk, after longer rides I am starving the rest of the day.

I found that when I first started strength training a few weeks ago, I was really hungry too and it was extremely hard to get a good deficit. However, for the last week or two, the hunger hasnt been bad at all and I have been able to get really high deficits. With that and the strength training, I have been losing on average two pounds a week. So try to get as good of a deficit as you can for the next few weeks, keep exercising the way you are, and hopefully the hunger will adjust for you too.

Edit: I agree with the above post. During the first few weeks when I was really hungry, I did find it helpful to eat right after I worked out. Good Luck.

Many people recommend eating a small protein snack right after weight training, like others have said above.  I always do this, but I've been having the same issue lately too.  I've been lifting weights at night for the last five months, and lately have started to feel insanely ravenous the following day.

I'm going to experiment with alternating eating a smaller breakfast, a smaller lunch, a smaller snack, a larger dinner, and drinking a recovery drink on the day of my workout, with eating a large breakfast and lunch and a small snack/dinner the day following my workout. I'm hoping this will work, because I'm going nuts!

So, I don't know if its normal but you aren't alone. : p

i found after swimming i became hungry.  extremely hungry!!

sometimes after surfing too.

and its weird because running (even cycling) would decrease my appetite.  body pump class or weights had no real effect on my appetite.

just try what others have mentioned, good luck.
